Police arrested an Oceanside man after discovering the body of his 7-year-old daughter in his home Wednesday.

Pedro Araujo, 27, was taken into custody at the residence the Oceanside Police Department said.

Investigators said Araujo's mother found him covered in blood when she came to the home to pick up his children.

Araujo allegedly refused to tell his mother where the girl was, prompting her to call authorities.

Officials say they found the 7-year-old's body in a bathroom with major trauma to the upper body.

A 6-year-old girl who was also in the home was removed by law enforcement and has been placed in her grandmother's custody.
Family members are speaking out after a 27-year-old Oceanside man was arrested for the murder of his own daughter, saying he has substance abuse issues and a criminal past.

Family members on the girls’ mother’s side of the family say Araujo had a history of run-ins with the law. Court records reveal he’s been involved in five criminal cases between April 2015 and October of 2018.

"When that happens, you know some thing is going to go on and the kids are the ones that pay for it. That’s what the tragedy is right now," said Aurelio Avina, the victim's great uncle.

Avina also mentioned Araujo's history with substance abuse.

"She’s gone and it’s her own father, her own dad and that’s what happens when you get involved with drugs and alcohol," Avina said.

Adrianna Avina, who identified herself as the victim's aunt, told FOX 5, "we love this baby and it’s a tragedy for all of us. We’re just in shock, overall in shock right now."

The young victim's great uncle also said Araujo and the child's mother were separated and shared custody, though Araujo's mother was mainly the person helping with the kids.

A San Diego County man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder in the stabbing death of his 7-year-old daughter.

Pedro Araujo, 27, is accused of stabbing his daughter Mariah Araujo 10 times in their home on July 31 while her little sister was in the next room, prosecutors say.

Araujo had custody of the girls. Authorities say Araujo's mother called police when she went to the home and noticed blood on his clothing.

The 7-year-old's body was found in a bathroom with major trauma to the upper body, officials said.

The sister, 6, was subsequently placed in her grandmother's care.

Police haven't released a motive for the killing.

So mom's family pretty much says hes a shit stain and they seen it coming...yet seem to have little to no involvement in making sure it didnt happen or caring for them? It truly annoys me how desperate media can be to get quotes from people who sometimes never even really know the people they are talking about. Id much rather see a quote from a teacher or friend or someone who actually gave two fucks about this girl than her defunct family who let this happen.
