A Missouri mother has been arrested and charged in connection with her 12-year-old daughter's suicide after she 'failed to get her medical care and secure her firearms when the girl made self-harming statements'.

Annie M. Small, 39, of Gorin, was taken into custody on a warrant for neglect of a child resulting in death, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Small's daughter, Anyiah, 12, died by suicide on New Year's Day in Wyaconda. Earlier that day, Anyiah dog was critically injured during a fight with another canine.

According to The Sacramento Bee, Small told authorities that she left her job at a bar to check on the pet and determined the animal was 'severely injured' and needed to be put down.

Anyiah pleaded with her mother not to do anything, but Small shot the dog in order to put it out of its misery.

She then returned to work and while there text her son to ask if Anyiah was okay.

According to the probable cause statement, her son responded that Anyiah was not doing well and nearly two hours later, Anyiah shot herself.

Small told investigators that while her children could access firearms, she didn't think Anyiah had access to the one she used.

During their investigation, authorities said they found 'I hate life' and 'I am not loved' handwritten on the ceiling.

The girl's diary reportedly included the words: 'plz help me plz plz help.'

According to the Sacramento Bee, Small told authorities that her daughter said she was considering harming herself just a day before the suicide.

Notes written on the ceiling???

How tall was this girl anyways.
Did she know SlenderMan?
How many firearms?
Why if mom knew she was suicidal and recently traumatized would she not have secured or even hidden the guns?

If you leave someone with suicidal thoughts alone near firearms they can access, this kind of outcome is not a matter of if, but rather when.
She was a pretty girl, must have taken after her male donor.

I feel sorrow for the brother tasked with keeping an eye on her.
Therapy might be really advisable...like today.

Horrible, evil, fake-mother, cruel, horrible-bitch.

Even just a little bit of care for that child, a little bit of giving a shit, would have solved it. But no, she gives no shits.

She could have taken the dog elsewhere, saying she was taking it to a vet, but requiring the girl to stay home. Then call an hour later "Sorry vet couldn't do anything". This is regardless of whether she actually took it to vet. But no, she shoots a god damn pet in the vicinity of the child?

Fake-mother should go kill herself immediately lest she risk spawning another one of herself.

Annie M. Small was sentenced to five years of supervised probation after pleading guilty to child abuse. [1, 2]
The charges stemmed from the tragic death of her 12-year-old daughter on New Year's Day in Wyaconda, Missouri. [1]

Case Details
  • The Incident: Small left her job at a local bar to check on the family dog, which had been severely injured in a fight. Despite her 12-year-old daughter begging her not to harm the pet, Small shot and killed the dog to put it down. [1, 2]
  • The Texts: Small returned to work and texted her son to check on her daughter. When he replied that the girl was not doing well, Small replied, "Dang it," but chose to remain at work. Less than an hour and a half later, her daughter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. [1]
  • The Diary: During the subsequent investigation, authorities uncovered the daughter’s diary, which contained entries showing she was already struggling with severe emotional distress before the incident. Small also admitted that her children had access to firearms in the home. [1, 2]

Legal Outcome
Clark County Prosecuting Attorney April Wilson filed charges of felony abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death. While the state acknowledged that filing criminal charges following a suicide is rare, they argued that inflicting severe emotional trauma on a vulnerable child constituted criminal neglect. Following a plea arrangement, Small received a suspended sentence and avoided jail time in favor of probation.
