Woman Arrested After Boy Found Suffering From Severe Malnutrition

A Paducah, Kentucky woman was indicted by a McCracken County Grand Jury on abuse charges in connection with an investigation that began in July 2019.

Laurie E. Pittman, 52, was arrested and charged with criminal abuse, 2nd degree (class D felony) on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

According to Kentucky State Police (KSP), Pittman’s arrest is in connection with an investigation into the poor health of a juvenile male.

The release says in July, Pittman's teenage son was taken to Baptist Health Paducah because of complications affecting his ability to breathe. From there, he was taken to a medical facility in Louisville for extended treatment because, state police say, he was in critical condition.

KSP says the teen was diagnosed with severe, life-threatening malnutrition, and the case was investigated by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, as well as state police.

Pittman's son is Zack Pittman — a Paducah boy who was hit by a car while walking home in May 2015. Zack was in a coma for about five weeks, and he had to have multiple surgeries before he could return home six months after the collision.

Paducah woman accused of abusing son arrested by state police

A Paducah woman accused of abusing her son was arrested Wednesday in McCracken County, Kentucky State Police say.

An 11-year-old boy was taken to Lourdes hospital after he was hit by a car on Husband Road in McCracken County Tuesday afternoon, and was then flown to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville. He was last listed in critical but stable condition.

The boy, who the sheriff’s department has identified as Zachary Pittman, of Paducah, was hit a little after 4 p.m. He’d been dropped off at a driveway by a McCracken County school bus. After the bus left, McCracken County Deputy David Shepard says, the boy crossed the street. Then the child went to cross back into the driveway.

Deputy Shepard said the preliminary investigation shows that while he was trying to cross back the street into the driveway, he was hit by a car going northbound driven by an 18-year-old woman. The road is on a hill and she may not have been able to see him. Deputies said they don’t believe speed was a factor in the incident or that charges will be brought.

not making any excuses for her but damn think about it. Your child is almost killed in your driveway by a car. He was in the hospital for 6 months. everyone is helping to support them I am sure at that time. Then he comes home Severely handicapped and you know what after that parade to get him home I can just about promise you help and people were non existent. She should have reached out to the hospitals for help, or homes but people are proud. My nephew is severely handicapped has been since birth. He is now a teenager. What was once easy is no longer easy. Changing diapers on a 16 year old that has a body of a 16 year old. Trying to bathe, feed and keep his nourishment right when he can only drink ensure, trying to know what is wrong when he is non verbal. Its hard My heart breaks for this little boy and I hope he makes a full recovery and is placed in a home where they are able to love and care for him but the reality unless a special person steps up he will be locked in a home and homes are not well equipped to take care of a child with special needs.

We have a nursing home that is specifically for children and only children up to age 21. If she had that much trouble she should of institutionalized him. I am absolutely positively certain she qualifies for help through disability and the state. She loved the damn money. As a five foot three inch woman at 105 lbs.. I have no problem taking care of the special needs children up to 19 I was charged with.. from Asperger's to full on cerebral palsy.. all so as a nurse I have taken care of total care patients and full care patients on vents and patients up to 700lbs with help and persons with advanced dementia. There is a complete world of providers and support groups this woman could of turned to even without family and friends. She is a vile evil woman who should have to pay every dime of restitution and she should rot in jail and starve.. go big or let someone who will when it comes to people with special needs.

@Sugar Cookie people manage every day in and out to take care of special needs kiddos and adults at very least there were support group for people dealing with the same situation and she could of attended and built a network even if it was just thru the school and county. We attended to kiddos with trachs and everything. I feel sorry for the situation but I don't feel sorry for the fact that she lived in a pity party. At anytime she could have taken that baby to a hospital and told them he was not eating, he was not responding to treatment or his weight had dropped significantly. There are so many avenues.

Well, in her defense the kid wasn't supposed to die. She was saving a lot of money by only feeding him a third or less of what he needed (you KNOW that ensure is expensive!!) and I BET she was loving that check.
