A Florida man was recently arrested after an argument over a handicapped parking space at a church led to him beating a woman, according to law enforcement.
John Phillips, 65, stands accused of one count each of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and elder abuse, as well as two counts of false imprisonment, Orange County court records show.
The victim was at the church to get her 5-year-old niece, according to the charging affidavit – which credits multiple witness statements along with surveillance footage. With the victim was her disabled mother, the little girl’s grandmother, who needed help picking up the child after school. As the trio prepared to leave, however, they were blocked from leaving the parking spot by a large black truck.
The woman noticed a man inside the truck waving a handicap sticker around, the affidavit says. The victim told investigators she responded in kind by showing off her mother’s handicap placard.

But the man was allegedly not satisfied.

As the man got out of his truck, she moved to intercept him so he would not be near her niece and elderly mother, the victim told investigators. The man began yelling that the woman’s handicap placard did not actually belong to her or the car she was in, the affidavit says. When the woman tried to reason with the man, he next allegedly insisted he had seen her get out of a different car.
“[The victim] stated she tried to explain they are not associated with the car parked next to them and they came in this car and were trying to leave,” the affidavit reads. “She further stated the male told them he is not letting them leave and he is involving security. [The victim] stated she told him, ‘What are you a dumbass.’ And the male rushed her, yelling, ‘who are you calling a dumbass!’ and then slammed the car door into her.”
Things took a quick turn from there.

The woman shoved the man to keep him away from her family, the affidavit says. He allegedly responded by punching her in the face.

“She stated she got up to defend herself and punched the male, who then overpowered her and grabbed her by the collar and threw her to the ground,” the court document goes on.
Then, the victim’s disabled mother tried to intervene, according to the sheriff’s office. The elderly woman, who described the man as “around her age,” tried to get in between him and her daughter. Then, he grabbed the older woman by the arms and pushed her, the affidavit alleges.

And she was actually trying to leave from the spot, if he had given her the chance.

But strictly speaking, if the handicapped person is going to sit in the car while the driver, not handicapped, goes into the store (or whatever) then you are not supposed park in the handicapped spots.

and he sure didn't need the handicapped sticker he was waving around ,(if it was even his) cuz by his actions he sure didn't sound very handicapped... he had to be in good enough shape to 1) get out of his car fast 2) grab the woman 3) slam the door on her 4) punch her 5)grab her by the collar and throw her on the ground when she tried to defend herself 6) stand there and keep arguing with the woman till her disabled mother got out of the car and to try to intervene he grabbed her by the arm and pushed her. boy all those actions would be hard on your back or legs if you were handicapped enough to need a sticker as i should know and all my handicapped friends that are 60 to about 70 they sure couldn't do it neither ... adreline might help to accomplish alot is a life depended on it but not enough adreline needed for an arguement over a parking space... and here at least yes even if the handicapped person doesn't get out of the car if you go to store or pick up someone etc it is ok to park in handicapped parking space as you never know how long it will take you to do what you need doing and the person waiting (handicapped) might need bathroom break, water, what ever so the parking spot allows them to be able to do so on their own ...

Why does he need a handicapped sticker if he can beat someone up over something so small?? They weren't even pulling in, they were leaving and he gotten the spot. That makes a ridiculous thing 1000 times more ridiculous.
And if she had gotten out of one car, why would she have been going into another car?
He was a lunatic.
