Court documents are releasing more information related to the death of a 3-year-old girl in Oklahoma City.

Last month, police said 3-year-old Lola Caplan was found non-responsive in her home and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Once at the hospital, she was pronounced dead.

“It was discovered that the child had injuries consistent with child abuse,” Officer Megan Morgan, with Oklahoma City Police Department, told News 4.

Now, probable cause affidavits are providing a clearer picture of what may have happened inside the family's home.

The affidavit states that the child had "extensive bruising" on her body and doctors said her injuries were "possibly the result of physical abuse."

Authorities learned that the child's mother, Alexis Caplan, was at work at the time, and that Lola was being cared for by Baylee Sowards.

"[Sowards] described hearing [Lola] wheezing from the living room. [Sowards] said when she went to check on the child, [Lola] was choking. [Sowards] said she grabbed [Lola] by the throat, attempting to hold her still so she could look inside the girl's mouth. When she was unable to see anything in [Lola's] mouth or throat, [Sowards] performed the Heimlich maneuver and [Lola] coughed out a quarter," the affidavit states.

When Alexis Caplan was interviewed, the affidavit states that she had talked to Sowards about "visible injuries she had seen on [Lola.] She also admitted [Lola] only began having the bruising and suspicious injuries after [Sowards] started caring for [Lola] and the two were alone."

What???
Mom noticed prior injuries and didn't fire this babysitter.

What a shame.

This link has a few pics of baby girl all bruised up and bloody....can anyone upload here? Also holy shit is baylee a man or a woman....oh and mom was arrested as well.

Maybe it was Halloween, maybe not, who gives a shit? Kids like to play dress up, never been around one who didn't .

I had a kid that would come home from kindergarten everyday and take his jacket off and hang it up and then put on his cape like Mister Rogers, would take off his jacket and put on his sweater. Sometimes he would wear ski or swim goggles too.

I'm sorry, but if I come home and my kid suddenly has unexplained bruises, the mfka watching him/her would gain some "unexplained" bruises too.. They can be twins:punch:

Two women were arrested last month in connection with the death of a 3-year-old daughter.
Court documents and a search warrant reveal new information regarding Lola Caplan's death.

According to court documents, Lola's grandmother made a referral to the Department of Human Services after seeing bruising on the girl's body. The grandmother told police that she believed the victim was "physically abused" by Baylee Sowards, who was in a domestic relationship with Lola's mother, Alexis Caplan.
Sowards was arrested on a complaint of child abuse. Caplan also was arrested and accused of enabling it, officials said.
Lola died at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City on May 31. Lola was with Sowards that day while her mother was at work, according to court documents.
The 3-year-old girl had "extensive bruising" all over her body, court documents said. During a search warrant of their apartment near Meridian Avenue and Northwest 39th Street, officers found two paddles.
Sowards and Caplan have since bonded out of jail while formal charges are still pending.

Criminal charges have been filed against two women in connection with a May 2018 death of a child, according to Oklahoma County court documents.

Baylee Sowards, 23, was charged with child abuse, and Alexis Nicole Caplan, 25, was charged with enabling child abuse. The charges were filed on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Lola Caplan, 3, died on May 31, 2018, at OU Children's Hospital. She was taken to the hospital after she stopped breathing.

Police determined Sowards was alone with Lola before she became unresponsive, according to the probable cause affidavit filed on June 4, 2019.

The state medical examiner's office determined the girl died from hemoperitoneum (blood in the abdomen) due to a liver laceration, according to the probable cause affidavit. The child's manner of death was listed as unknown. The medical examiner's report stated while it's rare, the internal injury causing Lola's death had been described in past cases of where the Heimlich maneuver had been used.

The state medical examiner's office also documented 100 bruises in various ages on Lola's head, chest, abdomen, back, buttocks, upper extremities and lower extremities.

Family members told police they suspected Lola had been physically abused and showed photos of the girl with extensive bruises and marks on her body, face and head.

Sowards told police she slapped Lola on the face five to six times in the past, and said she thought it was OK because she saw Caplan do it before. Sowards said she and Caplan used a paddle to spank Lola before.

During the investigation, police learned Caplan sent a text message to a friend two days before Lola's death and said she was "pretty sure" Sowards "beat" Lola because Lola was "covered in bruises," according to the probable cause affidavit.

Caplan told police her daughter started presenting frequent bruises after they started living with Sowards in December 2017. Caplan said the injuries became so frequent, she stopped asking Sowards about it, according to the court document.
