On November 4, 2024, officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child at a home in Ames.

Upon arrival, first responders attempted life saving measures. The child was taken to a local hospital where they were later pronounced dead.

Authorities found several bruises on the child’s body. Police say an autopsy revealed fatal internal injuries consistent with blunt force trauma.

The Ames Police Department announced Friday that 24-year-old Tyler Zeuthen, of Marshalltown, was charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death following a continued investigation.
