On Feb. 2, officers and firefighters with the city went to a home on New England Drive for a medical aid call, the Roseville Police Department said. There, officers found an unresponsive child.

Police said they tried lifesaving measures on the 9-year-old boy, but he died on Feb. 5 at the UC Davis Medical Center.
After working with the Placer County Children System of Care, police said they arrested the boy's mother, 37-year-old Kimberly Blakley, on Wednesday in connection with the boy's death.

Blakley is facing charges related to child abuse and homicide, the police department said.

Details were not released on what type of medical emergency the boy had. His cause of death is also not known.

Roseville police say the boy’s mother, 37-year-old Kimberly Blakley, was arrested and booked Wednesday on suspicion of child abuse and homicide. Police added that the child who died was adopted and not biologically related to Blakley.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and the boy’s siblings are under protective custody.

Prosecutors have filed murder, torture and child abuse charges against a married Roseville couple in the death of their adopted 9-year-old son.

Kimberly Rachel Blakley and Cory Albert Blakley, both 37 years old, were scheduled to make their first appearance Friday afternoon for their arraignment in Placer Superior Court. But only the accused mother was ushered into the courtroom.

Judge Angus Saint-Evens said Cory Blakley refused to exit his jail cell to attend the arraignment hearing. Barry Zimmerman, a defense attorney based in Placer County, has been hired to represent the father and asked the judge to postpone his client’s arraignment until next week.

On Wednesday, investigators arrested the couple. The Blakleys were booked at the Placer County Jail, where they remain held without bail.

The Placer County District Attorney’s Office filed a criminal complaint against the Blakleys, charging them each with felony charges of murder, torture and child abuse, along with six misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, according to the criminal complaint filed against the couple.

The child abuse charge against the Blakleys includes enhancements alleging the crime resulted in an injury to a child causing death. Prosecutors said the child abuse that led to the boy’s death occurred Feb. 2.

Prosecutors are alleging the parents’ abuse caused the boy to become comatose due to brain injury and to suffer paralysis, according to the criminal complaint.

Kimberly Blakley wore a jail inmate uniform and a dark-green protective vest Friday as she stood in the courtroom behind protective glass. She was overwhelmed with emotion throughout most of the four-minute hearing. The mother cried and shook her head as the judge read the criminal charges filed against her, before she sat down and bowed her head while continuing to cry for the remainder of the hearing.
Ciampa also said the boy’s siblings were in protective custody as the homicide investigation continues.

The six misdemeanor child endangerment charges filed against the parents list a different child for each charge, including 13-year-old “C.B.,” 12-year-old “K.B.,” 11-year-old “B.B.,” 8-year-old “K.B.,” 7-year-old “M.B.” and 6-year-old “C.B.”

Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire declined to say whether the children listed as victims in the child endangerment charges are the 9-year-old boy’s siblings. He did say those misdemeanor charges stem from separate alleged incidents of abuse.

I am sure the child cried when you was torturing him.

Roseville parents accused of murder in the death of their adopted 9-year-old son have been ordered to stand trial, but the child’s father is challenging that ruling in court.

Cory Albert Blakley, 38, and Kimberly Rachel Blakley, 37, appeared Friday morning for a brief hearing in Placer Superior Court.

Along with the murder charge, the Blakleys are accused of torture and child abuse in the death of their son who has been identified by his family as Cyrus Blakley. His parents have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecutors are alleging the parents’ abuse caused the boy to become comatose due to brain injury and to suffer paralysis, according to a filed criminal complaint.

On April 17, Judge Jeffrey Penney determined there was sufficient evidence for the Blakleys to stand trial after a three-day preliminary hearing. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.
Barry Zimmerman, a defense attorney representing Cory Blakley, has filed a motion challenging Penney’s ruling in the preliminary hearing. A hearing for that defense motion was initially scheduled for June 26, but Zimmerman on Friday asked the court to postpone that hearing until July 12.

Zimmerman told Judge Stephen L. Mock that the defense was still awaiting discovery evidence from the child’s autopsy. The judge granted the defense attorney’s request and postponed the hearing until July.

The Blakleys remain in custody at the Placer County jail, where they’ve been held without bail since their Feb. 7 arrest.
The Blakleys also face six misdemeanor counts of child endangerment for alleged crimes against six other children, ages 13 to 6 years old, according to the filed complaint.

Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire has declined to say whether the children listed as victims in the child endangerment charges are the 9-year-old boy’s siblings. He did say those misdemeanor charges stem from separate alleged incidents of abuse.
Cory Blakley’s mother, Ramona Blakley, in December 2021 created an online GoFundMe page to raise money for her son’s family. The grandmother wrote at the time that her son and his wife had two biological children, they “did surrogacy” for those children and that they had adopted one foster child and were adopting four more to keep the siblings together.

Roseville man pled guilty to several charges, including murder, in the death of his 9-year-old adoptive son on Friday.
Cory Blakley and his wife, Kimberly Blakley, face charges of murder, torture, child cruelty, and child endangerment.

On Feb. 2, 2024, officers and firefighters responded to Blakley's home on New England Drive for a medical aid call and found the child, Cyrus Blakley, unresponsive. He died from his injuries three days later at UC Davis Medical Center.
Following the child's death, Kimberly Blakley was accused of injuring her Cyrus to the point of brain injury, which caused him to suffer paralysis and eventually die. Cory was accused of willfully causing and permitting the child's fatal injuries to occur. Additionally, both were accused of child abuse, neglect or endangerment involving other children, ages 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, and 13, at the time the charges were filed.
Multiple neighbors expressed relief upon hearing about the murder plea, given the disturbing details of what occurred behind closed doors.

"Even if he wasn't the person that caused the death, I mean, you still knew something, and that's pretty horrifying," one neighbor told KCRA.

Friday's conditional plea means Cory Blakley waived his right to a jury trial. Each child endangerment count relates to the other children present in the house.
The Blakleys had two biological children and had adopted others.

"When there's kids involved, it's really hard to not be really angry at something like that," a neighbor said. "You try your hardest not to be, but I have little ones, and my kids played with those kids down the street."

Cory Blakley's anticipated sentence is 15 years to life in prison.
Cory Blakley will remain at the Placer County Jail until his sentencing, which has been scheduled for May 7.

Kimberly Blakley is set to appear in court on April 18, when a judge will set trial dates.

A man who pleaded guilty in March to murdering his adopted son was sentenced to 15 years to life on Wednesday.

The child’s adoptive parents Cory and Kimberly Blakley were arrested in early 2024 following the 9-year-old’s death.

Following their arrest, the Blakley’s six other children were placed into protective custody.
Cory Blakley pleaded guilty to one count of murder, one count of dissuading a witness and six counts of child endangerment.
