A 6-year-old child is dead and another juvenile is injured after an adult stabbed them both in Dallas Thursday, police say.

Officers were called to a stabbing at a residence on the 2900 block of Frazier Street, southeast of Fair Park, shortly before 2 p.m. When officers arrived a witness told them an adult woman had stabbed both of the children.

A woman who lived at the residence said she ran to a neighbor, a member of law enforcement, to get help detaining the woman and they were physically able to restrain her.

“He was off duty. [They said] he had tackled the young lady. He had detained her, and then he put the baby, the 6-year-old in the car,” said community activist Lamont Levels.

Levels lives nearby and said he was one of several neighbors to call 911.

From the fire station, Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics transferred the girl to a hospital, where she died, police said.

The juvenile boy, whose age has not been released, was also hospitalized and is said to be in stable condition.

The woman believed to have stabbed the children is in custody and is being questioned by police.

Troyshaye Mone Hall, 23, faces a capital murder charge in the death of Madison Petry, as well as a charge of aggravated assault in the stabbing of a 16-year-old boy. She has asked for a public defender, according to court records, but one has not yet been assigned to her case.

According to an arrest-warrant affidavit released Friday, officers spoke to Hall’s mother, who told them she had been in a rear bathroom in the house when she heard screaming. Hall’s brother then told her that Hall had stabbed his teenage friend, and they found her in another bathroom with a knife in her hand, the affidavit says.

Hall’s mother and brother tried to take the knife from her, but she managed to get away from them and began stabbing her daughter, the affidavit says.
