Sentenced: SD Daycare Worker Accused Of Dropping, Pushing 4 Boys Under the Age Of One

According to Sioux Falls Police, Chelsea Struss, 38, was arrested on four counts of Abuse of a Minor under 7 years old on Tuesday, April 15.

Police responded to a daycare in the 3300 block of West 49th Street after a call came in around 7:30 p.m. reporting that four boys under one years old were either pushed or dropped by Struss that day.

Surveillance footage showed what appeared to be Struss carrying the boys roughly and dropping them onto mats.

A parent notified police, and CPS was contacted earlier in the day.

Struss was arrested without incident and is currently being held on a $25,000 cash bond.

A Minnehaha County judge sentenced Chelsea Struss to a total of 25 years in prison, with 21 suspended and credit for 168 days of time served.

She pleaded guilty to three of her original 18 counts of child abuse as part of a plea deal.

Struss was arrested in April 2025 after surveillance footage showed her picking up and dropping children onto mats.
