A Penn Township man faces charges after he allegedly held a 2-year-old boy's hand under hot water until the skin peeled from the boy's fingers.

Shane Douglas McKinsey, 31, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering the welfare of children.

As of Tuesday, McKinsey remained in York County Prison on $100,000 bail.

About 7:30 p.m. on June 23, Penn Township Police responded for a report of a 2-year-old boy who had been burned.

Once there, "Police observed the Victim's right hand to have four digits burned with skin sloughing off the fingers, all the way to up to the hand evenly," according to documents.

As the boy was flown by helicopter to the Johns Hopkins Hospital Children's Burn Unit in Baltimore, police started an investigation. They soon learned that McKinsey had been alone with the boy prior to his injuries.

During an interview with police, McKinsey said he brought the victim to the kitchen sink to clean up and play after he spat juice on his toys and the floor.

McKinsey said he left the boy alone with the water on because he had to urinate and that when he came back, the boy's hand was red.

"When confronted with facts about water temperature and burns, the Defendant stated that the original version of events he reported was a lie," documents state.

McKinsey then said when he discovered that the victim had been spitting on his toys and the floor, he picked him up and that the boy then spat in his face.

McKinsey said he "just snapped," taking the victim to the sink, turning on hot water and holding his hand under it. He said he repeatedly held the boy's hand in the water, pulled it out for a brief time and then held it under the water again.

"At some point, the Defendant reported that he saw the skin falling off the Victim's fingers and stopped," documents state.

I can't even begin to imagine that poor baby's agony and screams! I hope his fellow inmates hear all the details about what he's in there for! They are going to fuck him up pretty bad. I bet there are a lot of fathers in there who miss their kids and a lot of prisoners who were abused as children who would gladly dish out their own brand of justice!

He lives pretty close to me. I think he needs to disappear.
Hopefully there are lots of woodlands and cornfields in your area to make that happen.

But first things first, toxic waste must be broken down first before it can be properly disposed of.

If the boys hand was burned bad enough to have skin sloughing off the fingers, while still under the water, he's going to lose those fingers and maybe his hand too.

That wasn't discipline. It was purely anger. Discipline and anger shouldn't go together, because the message is then distorted.

I agree entirely. A few times Ive spanked my kids as a reaction instead of a response. It makes me feel bad even though I would have spanked them anyway. It just gets distorted like you said. They see the flash of anger and lack of control as opposed to structured discipline.

I don't believe in spankings after the age of 5 either so Jax is in the clear now. We take away his privileges. Can't do anything about that privileged skin though. I'd beat it out of him if I could. Black and blue privilege. I kid of course.

Oh I forgot my post about this POS. My youngest is 2 right now and I'm 31. Same ages. That's mind-blowing that you would do that to a kid. That's fucking torture. May as well have waterboarded him.

My son was spitting like crazy not long ago too. Spitting on the floor. Spitting on me. Yeah it was fucking gross but spanking him didn't even cross my mind. I only spank when they put themselves or others in danger combined with not listening to a previous verbal warning. Spitting? I just kept telling him how gross and disgusting it was. Yucky.

And we're not even talking about a snap decision. That was his rational punishment. Only way you can explain turning the water on in the first place, but especially by putting his hand BACK under it. He's just a sadistic fuck.

Stating that he believed the crime was premeditated, a York County judge on Wednesday ordered a man to serve 2 1/2 to five years in prison for submerging a 2-year-old boy's right hand in hot water, causing second-degree burns.
“We are simply appalled by the defendant’s behavior and stunned by the consequences this little boy had to suffer,” Common Pleas Judge Harry M. Ness said as he sentenced Shane McKinsey. “It makes no sense to me.”

“Scars heal,” the judge later added. “It’s really tough to fix the psychological impact of your behavior.”
McKinsey, 33, of Penn Township, had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child with no agreement in place on the sentence. He inflicted the burns when he was watching the boy on June 23, 2020, and a helicopter had to take the child to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Pediatric Burn Center in Baltimore.
Earlier in the hearing, McKinsey said he took full responsibility for his actions, stating that he had been in a bad mental state and let his anger get the best of him.

“I’m extremely sorry for what has happened,” McKinsey said. “There’s nothing I can do to take anything back or change anything. I honestly wish it never would’ve happened.”
The boy’s mother and grandfather spoke at sentencing and stated that while the infant’s physical injuries have largely healed, he struggles with bath time and fears warm water.

“There’s no reason for any justification for what a grown man did to a young boy,” the grandfather said. “It’s left a permanent scar on that boy’s life.”

Is It just me or is 2.5 years a slap in the face for the child who, do to a full-grown man's *premeditated* actions, suffered severe burns to his hand and can't fucking take baths without having a panic attack at the age of 2??

Shame on you, "Judge".
