An East Contra Costa mother has been arrested and charged with murdering her 2-year-old son, whom authorities say died after he overdosed on fentanyl.

Genesis Barrera-Galdamez, 22, was charged with second-degree murder of her son, Jasani Kerry, 2, in a Sept. 20 incident. Prosecutors also charged Barrera-Galdamez with possessing narcotics for sale, and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury.

Barrera-Galdamez called 911 after she found her son unresponsive in a Brentwood home in the early morning of Sept. 20. He was declared dead later that day and a pathologist later determined he died of acute fentanyl toxicity, according to authorities.

After an extensive investigation, Brentwood investigators located and arrested Barrera-Galdemez at an Antioch motel and took her into custody.

Barrera-Galdamez is being held on a $1.1 million bond and is due in court Wednesday for an arraignment hearing.

Be a lot more of this in Oregon in the near future i bet, Fentanyl is legal there!
Except when things are legal, they're less profitable and there's no need for a black market. You don't have high school dropouts selling shit out of their living rooms.

But who knows. I'd be curious to see how your opinion stacks up with accidental overdose statistics in places where opioids are legal or decriminalized.

Baby Sani was a brief, beautiful gift from God who touched the lives of loved ones, and strangers alike.

He left footprints on all of our hearts. Baby Sani was such a special boy, whose smile brightened up any room and warmed everyone\'s hearts.

Sani was always happy whether he was playing with his cars, or throwing balls. He also loved playing with balloons.

Baby Sani was full of energy running up and down our hallways. He loved jumping on the bed. Watching him explore and excelling at all of his milestones was such a joy. He made us all very proud.

Although his time with us was cut too short, Baby Sani leaves a lifetime of love and memories. He will live on through all of those who loved him dearly.

Our dearest Baby Sani, you may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. We love you.
