A 23-year-old Newton woman faces life in prison following a guilty plea for multiple child sex crimes.

On Friday, the Harvey County Attorney’s Office said Veronica S. Darby pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

The victim in the case was a child under eight years old.

Christopher M. McAhren, 32, was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for 100 years July 25 by Harvey County District Court Judge Michael Llamas.

The sentencing followed McAhren’s guilty plea entered April 24 to Aggravated Criminal Sodomy, aggravated Indecent Liberties with a Child, Rape of a child under the age of 14, and Aggravated Internet Trading in Child Pornography.


The victim was under the age of 8 at the time of the offenses.

“McAhren stole the victims’ innocence, documented his offenses through images, involved others, and shared those images,” Heather Figger, county prosecutor, told the court. “When his crimes were uncovered, he fled the state.”

McAhren was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences with a 100- year minimum before parole eligibility. If ever released, McAhren would be subject to lifetime parole supervision with electronic monitoring, and sex offender registration.
