A pregnant bulldog was abandoned in a baby pool beside a dumpster behind an elementary school Wednesday, according to Richmond Animal Care and Control.
The pregnant dog was found at 5:30 p.m. behind Norrell Elementary School.
According to RACC, bulldogs’ anatomy requires them to have a C-section since they cannot typically reproduce on their own.
The dog was transported to VVC and was confirmed to have multiple dead puppies inside of her.
As of Thursday morning, RACC said the dog was put through surgery and puppies were removed and she is now spayed.
She has pneumonia and RACC is hoping for her survival.
The shelter posted an update on Facebook on Tuesday evening. The dog, now named Mama Hope Elizabeth, is still fighting for her life.
Pregnant bulldog in need of C-section abandoned in baby pool beside dumpster in Richmond
Sadly, the dog was transported to VVC and was confirmed to have multiple dead puppies inside of her. She underwent surgery as of this morning.
“Whoever owned this dog, knew she was pregnant (hence the baby pool) and abandoned her when she needed help the most,” RACC said in a Facebook post.
The dog was taken to the vet, where it was confirmed she had multiple dead puppies inside her.
“We don’t know how long she has been suffering and we hope she isn’t septic. If she’s stable enough, she will have surgery tonight to remove the dead puppies and spay her so she never has to go through anything like this again. If she’s not able to live through surgery, we will hug her close and euthanize,” RACC said.

Update time! First, she is still alive (barely) but there we are. Second, we named her Mama Hope Elizabeth (after the vet that did her surgery).
