The dramatic moment that onlookers tackled and detained a man who kicked a stranger's Pomeranian dog in the head has been caught on video.
Josh Kuipers was walking Meekam on Manhattan's Lower East Side when he said a stranger kicked the seven-pound dog in the head 'like a football'.
Meeka, who just turned seven years old this week, was whimpering and crying, bleeding from her mouth and had difficulty walking afterwards, he said.
According to witnesses at the scene, a crowd gathered and a number of passersby immediately rushed after the perpetrator.
The assailant was quickly apprehended by the Good Samaritans and held on the ground until the police arrived.
When police arrived, they identified the suspect as Jerrod Ford, 50. But incredibly, even though Kuipers says Ford confessed to kicking Meeka, Ford was not arrested or charged, he said.
'He wasn't arrested because he 'caused no major injury to the dog' but we don't know that yet,' Kuipers said.
He said that Meeka was 'Crying and yelping like crazy, she was bleeding from the mouth, the cops hardly looked at the dog. I took her to the vet, and she confirmed the cuts on her mouth and her teeth being knocked loose.
