Area man where I work has been locked up on some pretty fucking disgusting charges.

A one James E. Baugher has been arrested and charged with half a decade of sex abuse and rape of a child in his family. The victim, now 24, made the accusation to the police that she was sexually abused for 5 years from when she was 9 to 14. To help with the investigation the victim agreed to call Baugher while the police listened in the conversation. When confronted with the woman's questions, he admitted over the phone of sexually abusing and raping her, though he did apologized to her for his years of "indiscretions".

Btw, I have some work friends who has know this James for years and they "thought" they knew this guy. They said Baugher seemed a really decent and good man. Maybe he was if he wasn't raping you, he might be nice.

Prior to arresting Baugher, deputies intercepted a call between the victim and Baugher, which the victim initiated ...

“He apologized many times for the sexual abuse and stated there was nothing he could do to take it back. This conversation corroborated the crimes as described.”

A search and seizure warrant was executed on Baugher’s home that day “to locate items of evidence that were believed to still be present in the home,” Yates stated ...

The charges Baugher is facing include second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense and sex abuse of a minor.

Though the article above doesn't state the relationship between Mr. Child Rapist to his victim, the crime of "Incest" and "Custodial" Sex abuse that he has officially been charged with does give a clue.

Also, in Maryland, second degree rape with a child under 14 years old has some pretty tough sentencing. First I'll show what elements of the crime that has to happen for second degree rape, then I'll highlight the penalties.

The various forms of sexual assault that are prohibited in Maryland include:

• Rape
  • First Degree – engaging in sexual intercourse with another without his or her consent by force, using weapons, strangling or inflicting serious physical injury, threatening with death, serious injury, or kidnapping, or committed with another’s help or during a burglary
  • Second Degree – engaging in vaginal intercourse with another 1) without his or her consent by force or threat, 2) with a mentally or physically incapacitated person (includes drunk, high, or unconscious) when the defendant knows of his or her condition, or 3) the victim is under 14 years old and the defendant is at least 4 years older than the victim

• Penalties
  

  In Maryland, most statutes provide both the crime and the applicable penalty: Rape First Degree – Generally, life imprisonment is the maximum sentence for this crime or attempt of this crime. However, if a person commits the rape on a kidnapped child under 16, had a prior conviction for first-degree rape or sexual offense, or raped a child under 13 while over 18 years old then life imprisonment without the possibility of parole is the maximum sentence available. Note: There’s a 25-year mandatory minimum prison sentence if the rape was by a person over 18 of a child under 13. The court can’t suspend any part of those 25 years neither is the person eligible for parole. Second Degree – Generally, the penalty by up to 20 years in prison, including for attempted second-degree rape. However, if a person 18 years or older rapes a child under 13 the minimum prison term is 15 years and maximum is life in prison.

So, Pervert Baugher is looking at a minimum 15 year sentence, which will make him at least 70 when he gets out prison if convicted.

This shitbag is the father of the victim and there appeared to be no family issues, like divorce, nor have I heard of him being in a position to molest other children. I know I've had to have met this guy at work before (probably quite a few times), but I don't remember much of him. Many of my co-workers knew him very well and for all intents and purposes he was a stand up guy, besides raping his daughter those 5 years.

I have friend in the local law enforcement and from I hear, when the young women gave details of what her father did to her to the police many of the officers were livid.

James Eric Baugher, 56, of Lusby, was sentenced on March 25, 2022, to 30 years imprisonment for sex offenses that he committed over a 7-year period with a minor child. The sentence was imposed by the Honorable Mark S. Chandlee of the Calvert County Circuit Court. Baugher will not be eligible for parole until he has served at least 15 years of his sentence, at which point he will be 71 years old. He will also be subject to lifetime supervision as a sex offender and lifetime registration on the sex offender registry.

Honestly, that fact is one of the biggest deterrents for me to avoid getting arrested for anything ever. I have serious physical issues that cause chronic pain and a comfortable bed is a HUGE thing for me in general…prison “beds” would literally kill me.

Otherwise I might be a drug kingpin, major arms trafficker, or hugely successful pimp. But those concrete-and-nail-stuffed “cushions” tho…

Well, I must admit, at a nice city jail where I spent Christmas 2017 before being sentenced to much less nice county, they put three mattresses together for me to make a "bed" and put it in the hall instead of in a cell so I could watch tv nonstop. Which I somehow ended up breaking, but they fixed it lol.

I just found this thread. This whole case blew my mind . I worked with this guy for 25 plus years and its always the ones youd never suspect and I never would have. There was a dark cloud over the place for a couple weeks because of this tragedy.
