A first grade teacher is accused of knocking a student's tooth out in Riviera Beach.
Police arrested 64-year-old Cynthia Smith on a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm.
According to the arrest report, Smith reportedly slammed his head into the bulletin board, knocking out a front tooth and busting his lip. Though she claims a student pushed the boy, surveillance-camera footage from the Riviera Beach school shows her pushing his head, then forcefully leading him to her classroom, Palm Beach County School District police said.
He then is seen on camera re-stapling items on the board outside her classroom.
Smith, when interviewed by police, gave a written statement to police. She wrote students tried to remove things from the wall while pushing each other in the hallway and that the student was pushed into the wall. According to the report, Smith wrote she never touched the student.
The school principal told police Smith has been at the school for 12 years and has four documented cases on file regarding her behavior. Principal Katrina Granger said students are also afraid of Smith.
