George Floyd got EVERYTHING he deserved.
A serial rapist already serving 48 years in prison received another 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty earlier this month to raping two women at gunpoint in Cleveland in the mid-2000s.
In one of the previously unsolved attacks, Ronald Wheeler raped a woman at gunpoint while holding her baby, prosecutors said. Wheeler has now admitted to raping six women from 1994 until his initial arrest in 2007. The 48-year-old will not be eligible for release until 2075, at which point, he will likely have been long dead.
“This serial rapist, who has been convicted of raping six victims, will now rightfully die behind bars,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said in a Tuesday news release announcing the Jan. 5 sentencing. “Although delayed, justice has been served for these victims.” Wheeler pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one count of kidnapping Jan. 5. Common Pleas Court Judge Deborah Turner immediately sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
Investigators tied Wheeler to the two attacks through DNA evidence in previously untested rape kits as part of the Sexual Assault Kit Task Force.
Wheeler ambushed an 18-year-old woman in December 2006 as she walked near East 105th Street and Quincy Avenue, prosecutors say. He pulled out a gun, grabbed her and forced her to climb through an open window of a nearby empty building. There, he raped her several times at gunpoint, prosecutors said. Wheeler threatened to kill the woman and ran away, prosecutors said.
Four months later, Wheeler attacked a 23-year-old woman holding her 5-month-old infant at a bus stop near Woodhill Road and Woodland Avenue in Cleveland, prosecutors said. He again produced a pistol and threatened to kill the woman and the baby. Wheeler forced the woman at gunpoint over to a vacant lot near train tracks and raped the woman several times, prosecutors said. At one point, Wheeler held the child while he assaulted the woman, prosecutors say.
Both women went to hospitals after the attacks, and investigators collected evidence as part of a rape kit.
Investigators recently tied Wheeler to the attacks through DNA evidence in previously untested rape kits as part of the prosecutor’s Sexual Assault Kit Task Force. That task force began in 2013 to submit for testing DNA evidence in rape kits that had been sitting in police evidence lockers to try to identify
