A 10-year-old girl was stabbed to death in Alabama and another child is being charged with her murder, according to police.

Katheryn Aliceanna Bigbee, 10, was stabbed multiple times, Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown said.

Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson said another juvenile was taken into custody and is being charged with murder. That child’s age has not been released.

Johnson said the case remains under investigation and no further details will be given at this time.

“The parents heard something, and they couldn't find one of the children inside the home," Piedmont police Chief Nathan Johnson said, per WVTM. "And so they went outside to look. And that's how it came in as a missing person. They ended up finding a female with extensive injuries, appeared to be deceased."

Per the outlets, the Calhoun County Coroner ruled that Katheryn had been stabbed to death.
