A baby girl was clinging to life Saturday after allegedly being punched in the head by a Bronx man, police said.
Jerome Thomas, 19, was hit with first-degree assault and child endangerment charges for allegedly slamming his closed fist into the one-year-old’s head inside a Woodstock apartment around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, cops said.
When police responded to a call about someone needing help, they allegedly found Thomas, a 25-year-old woman and the battered baby, who was semi-conscious, authorities said Saturday.
The infant was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.
Thomas pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court Saturday, where a judge ordered him remanded without bail.

Jerome Thomas, 19, was arrested in New York last week after he punched Imani-Dior Monique Mitchell, the 1-year-old daughter of his girlfriend LeNesha Mitchell, 25, multiple times. “She [LeNesha] came back and found her daughter in a weird position not responsive and wrapped with covers,”. “She even called the cops from his [Jerome] phone. He was refusing to do it and kept her [LeNesha's] phone from her and kept trying to snatch the baby and kept saying she was OK and that she was asleep.” When police responded to a call about someone needing help, they discovered the child's face and head to be badly swollen, especially around a bruised left eye. The baby was semi-conscious and struggling to breathe. The girl was forced to undergo surgery to remove a piece of her skull. Thomas was charged by the New York Police Department with first-degree assault and child endangerment for allegedly using his closed fist to strike the child. Thomas ordered held without bail.
