Sentenced: After a night of partying Myechia Avery woke to her best mistake under a plastic bag with clothes on top of him

The mother of a baby boy who was found face up under a plastic bag on the floor of their Cary apartment has been charged in connection with her son’s death.

Myechia Naomi Avery, 30, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and involuntary manslaughter, Cary police said in a press release.

During questioning, police learned Avery had been out partying, drinking and using cocaine the night before the child was found on Sept. 18.

She told police she had returned home at 5:30 a.m. and moved the baby to a car seat on the floor next to her bed before going to sleep, according to information police gave in applying for a warrant to search the apartment.

She awoke to find the boy under a plastic bag with clothes on top, and she could only see his legs, Detective Adam Dismukes said in the warrant application.

The child was unresponsive when officials responded to the report of a medical emergency at the apartment. He later died at a local hospital, police said.

This is heartbreaking, for so many reasons. I believe she didn’t mean for this to happen & it must be horrifically painful..However, One of the hardest things we will have to do, is accept responsibility, for even accidents that happen due to our choices.

I don’t think she did that. She put him in care seat but he wiggled out or the 2 year old pulled him out. I can imagine the two year old putting stuff on top of him.

The second she decided to get drunk and do coke until 5 am while being a caretaker of littles, she was guilty.

I love booze. I love being drunk. I find it hard to have one drink without washing it down with 15 more. So, since I have multiple littles depending on me, I don’t have even one drink. Not even a foofy, sissy drink with a large dinner. My buzz is not worth them even missing breakfast or me being hung over and not at my best the following day.
