Blunderbuss Firozabad

Steve Mark's got greedy for the good stuff, and he lost his job and a damn fine job title:

Director of the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission.

I have never heard of such a wonderful job title.
If you think you have heard a better one, I'd love to hear it.

His salary?

$222,804.00

Goodby salary, goodbye Pappy, goodbye Steve.

"Top Oregon Liquor Official Resigns Amid Accusations of Bourbon Hoarding"

Here's a little about Pappy Van Winkle:

-"For the dedicated whiskey connoisseur, getting a taste of Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve bourbon is a Tolkien-worthy quest. With a small production run and a lengthy 15- to 23-year aging process that creates a limited-supply/high-demand situation, the spirit is decidedly elusive at its starting retail price of about $120. Bars that stock it can charge $75 a shot or more, and collectors’ sites list the whiskey for $5,000 a bottle."

-Pappy Van Winkle is the crown jewel among rare whiskeys: highly coveted, super expensive and nearly impossible to find.

-bourbon, which must age in new charred oak vs. Scotch's typically used barrels, can compete with the world's very best whiskies and taste incredible at older ages.

Steve, you greedy s.o.b.:

" The executive director of Oregon’s liquor control agency announced his resignation on Monday amid a criminal investigation into accusations that top officials had hoarded bottles of top-shelf spirits including rare bourbons that can fetch more than $5,000 on the secondary market.

"The official, Steve Marks, wrote in a resignation letter that Gov. Tina Kotek of Oregon had requested that he step down from his position as executive director of the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission."

"A longtime purchasing coordinator told investigators that commission officials had for years requested liquor from the “safety stock,” a reserve supply that was kept at the warehouse to replace bottles that broke in transit to restaurants, hotels and liquor stores."

" Commission officials paid market price for the bottles and, according to their interviews with an investigator, either drank them or gave them as gifts, said Mark Pettinger, a commission spokesman.

Pappy Van Winkle bourbon aged up to 23 years and Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel — another bourbon made by the same Kentucky distillery, Buffalo Trace — were the spirits “typically requested,” the purchasing coordinator told investigators.""

I believe this guy is the third, perhaps fourth person that has resigned from the OLCC for this Pappy Van Winkle situation. Next time you're going to scam your bosses, don't do it at the closest goddamn liquor store to the building that houses the OLCC... it's just a thought. The liquor store that was the primary location for this scheme just happens to the closest one to where I used to live when I lived in S.E. Portland 25+/- years ago. Now, with that said. There is something very wrong with the brand new, highly contentious Governor coming in and threatening people's livelihoods when, at least technically, the state hasn't lost a single freaking penny on this bullshit. What happened is they had people on the inside at the liquor stores that would keep and sell the Pappy to them, and them alone. They paid full retail for the bottles. It's more that the people were setting it up so that only they got the Pappy. I don't like Governor Kotek's direction on this. This state has much larger issues that need to be addressed, and since the state lost ZERO revenue, I don't like seeing this much time devoted to pet projects that aid no one except the Governor flexing her 'muscle'. But that's one Conservative's story in a state run by Leftist Loons...

I'll be honest. The picture accompanying the first article I read? I thought it was of Steve Marks. It was not. It was the Governor, Tina.

The more I ruminate on this, the more it pisses me off actually. And the Gov., I can't quite get a grasp on her angle here. Is she miffed she didn't get some Pappy? Is this turbo flexing? Why, with so, so, SO many issues plaguing Oregon, why is practically the very first thing you do upon being sworn in? It makes me wonder who/what hurt her feelers in all of this? :shifty:

Ever since "Pappygate" (look it up) this stuff has been through the roof. Before that it cost around $20 a shot in the early 00's BUT every bar had like one bottle. I've had it. It's really good. Not the best bourbon I've ever had. I think this is all part of the plan. I think 20 some years ago they knew they had a hot shit product and worked up this plan around it. I sure don't recall seeing any 20 or 25yr old Pappy until the last year or so.
