Authorities in New Mexico issued an arrest warrant Friday for director and Emmy Award-winning actor Timothy Busfield to face a child sex abuse charge.
An investigator with the Albuquerque Police Department filed a criminal complaint in support of the charge, which says a child reported that Busfield touched him inappropriately. The acts allegedly occurred on the set of “The Cleaning Lady,” a TV series Busfield directed and acted in.

The child said the first incident happened when he was 7 years old and Busfield touched him three or four times. Busfield allegedly touched him five or six times on another occasion when he was 8.

The child’s mother reported to Child Protective Services that the abuse occurred between November 2022 and spring 2024, the complaint said.
According to the complaint, the child, which it identifies only by his initials, has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety. A social worker documented him saying he has had nightmares about Busfield touching him and woken up scared.

The child was reportedly afraid to tell anyone because Busfield was the director and he feared he would get mad at him.

The investigation began in November 2024, when the investigator responded to a call from a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital. The child’s parents had gone there at the recommendation of a law firm, the complaint said.

Actor and director Timothy Busfield has turned himself in to authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after child sex abuse charges were filed against him earlier this month, according to reports.
Busfield, 68, said in a video obtained by TMZ and PEOPLE that he “did not do anything wrong.” He explained that after being notified Friday about the arrest warrant issued for him he “had to get a lawyer,” then “drove 2,000 miles to Albuquerque.”

Nexstar’s KRQE confirmed via court records that Busfield had turned himself in.

The arrest warrant was issued last week for Busfield after the Emmy Award-winning actor was accused of inappropriately touching a minor on the set of the TV show “The Cleaning Lady.” Busfield, who directed and acted in the show, faces two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and one count of child abuse.

For a second there, I thought he was Adam Savage.

I don't know anything about him except he's married to Melissa Gilbert. So I don't know what to think. This day and age it could go either way, boy's mother could be looking for a pay day or it really happened. Who knows, just wait for the evidence, I guess.

In a pretrial detention motion filed on Jan. 14 and obtained by PEOPLE, Busfield faces another accusation of sexual abuse.

The motion states that "another victim's father," Colin Swift, reported to law enforcement on Jan. 13 that Busfield allegedly had sexually abused Swift's daughter "several years ago" in Sacramento, Calif.

"While auditioning for [Busfield] at B Street Threatre, the 16-year-old reported that [Busfield] kissed her and put his hands down her pants and touched her privates," per the motion.

11 year old twin boys and now a 16 year old girl, seems he's going to be an equal opportunity abuser. I do believe which side I'm starting to believe.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on this since the news first broke in January, and it’s still hard to wrap my head around the fact that this allegedly went on from 2022 to 2024 without anyone stepping in. The bravery it took for that family to finally bring this to light is massive.

Dealing with these huge institutional cover-ups is exhausting, I’ve had my own run-ins with systemic negligence before and always looked to the team at Oberheiden as a solid reference for how to actually fight back when a "brand" tries to bury the truth. If these allegations are proven, Busfield needs to face the absolute maximum. You can’t put a price on the safety he allegedly stole from those kids.
