John Joseph Daly III, the East Valley Rapist, all 6'2", 350 lbs of him
John Joseph Daly III was a Border Patrol agent for over 20 years, recently retired, and his DNA has been found at the scenes of 10 violent rapes going back 20 years.
Here's what would happen to you if he crawled through your window (and you're a female, alone in your bed):
You'd be awakened at 4 a.m. to find a 6'2", 350 lb man on top of you. He would have slithered in thru an unlocked window and what woke you up was when he covered your eyes with duct tape, blinding you.
Then he would quickly tie your hands together with a precut cord, so you couldn't do much to stop what came next.
You would be beaten and strangled several times to unconsciousness, over and over.
He'd roughly cut off your clothing with a knife while you weren't moving. Then he'd rape you.
He might speak in really bad Spanish so if you dared to report him, you'd throw the blame at an illegal border crosser.
In what I can only assume would be English with a Speedy Gonzales accent, he would tell you:
"You can tell your husband, you can tell the police, but they're just going to be upset because they can't find me, because I don't leave any evidence."
And then he'd steal some of your stuff and leave you there, bound.
But before leaving, he'd threaten, one more time, to come back and slit your throat if you reported him.

And he was right that all that reporting him to the police would do is irritate them.
One victim, a 25 year-old woman in Bisbee, escaped and ran down the apartments common hallway and a neighbor, also employed as a Border Agent found her on the other side of his door naked, with tape across her eyes and hands bound with cord,
The victim reported the crime. Local police? Didn't believe her, they gave her a polygraph test.

There's evidence that authorities knew they had matching DNA samples from different crime scenes in 2002, but it wasn't until the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative grants came along that more attention was paid.
LE discovered that the same person had committed a number of rapes across Arizona but there was no match in the system
They turned to familial DNA, and they started building a family tree from their first match-who was adopted.
And John Joseph Daly was on that short list and he owned property near all the crime scenes.
"I called him up one day and told him, ‘hey I'm in town, would you like to have lunch?’ He agreed,” said United States Border patrol operations officer Ryan Holden.
Daly never expected a border patrol agent he knew would be the one to get the DNA police used to arrest him.
Undercover FBI agents watched them closely while they had lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Sierra Vista."
And the DNA they got off the utensils he used were a match.
When they went to arrest him he reached for his gun (Open carry in Arizona) and the officers tried to taser that 350 pound sack of shit and the taze did not faze him. Then they shot him with bean bags.
(Oh, how I wish I could say they slapped tape over his eyes and stage whispered in a Spanish accent that they'd slit his throat is he kept resisting. Daly does NOT speak or understand Spanish btw.)
I guess this worked because he's been cooling his heels in jail for some time, his lawyer demanding pieces of evidence from 2000, sworn statements from since deceased officers, etc, etc. And he's just problecrossed.
279 guns were found in his home plus clipped articles of some of his crimes.
His trial will commence November this year in Maricopa County

As usual, reporters were able to scrape up people who said something like (I'm paraphrasing)
"He appeared to be a responsible, God-fearing citizen. Not once did I see him rape someone, not ONCE! He was doggone clever the way he acted like a normal person, a Meryl Streep-like performance, because I'm no dummy, not easily fooled, nope, he hid it well! Why, I would have taken him down myself if there had been a single clue, I was a Boxer in the Navy. Nope he never caused a problem as my neighbor, always fully clothed when he got the mail, parked straight in his driveway, no satanic sacrifices in his yard, didn't set off explosives, and never asked to borrow any of my tools."
