A Tamaqua police officer is jailed in Columbia County Prison after he was charged with possessing child sexual abuse material and having sexual intercourse with dogs.
The state attorney general’s office on Friday charged Christopher J. Cordes, 29, of Bloomsburg, with child pornography and other felonies related to sexually explicit conversations, photos and videos he allegedly exchanged on Snapchat with several females, including those who claimed to be minors.
Tamaqua Police Chief Michael Hobbs posted on the department Facebook page Friday that Cordes has been suspended indefinitely without pay. Hobbs said he just learned of the case Friday morning.
An investigation of the defendant’s Snapchat account, Special Agent Gabriel Fabian found numerous text conversations the defendant had carried out with other users, in which he admitted being sexually attracted to children and solicited inappropriate pictures and videos from users, including those who claimed to be under 18.
One user, who said she was 25, offered to send the defendant explicit pictures of herself dating to 2013, when she was in middle school.
In that same conversation, the woman also told the defendant she had previously met a police officer “with very similar interests” who had given her a sexually transmitted disease.
Through further investigation, police determined the defendant had previously met the woman in 2021 and paid her $150 through CashApp, presumably for STD treatment.
In another Snapchat conversation, the defendant solicited explicit material from a 13-year-old girl and told her about his interest in bestiality.
Fabian said he later found several videos on the defendant’s account of the defendant having sex with dogs.
Additionally, an underage girl had sent the defendant, at his request, multiple videos of what appeared to be self-produced pornographic material, according to Fabian.
Cordes faces 18 total felony counts, including for child pornography, disseminating explicit sexual mater
