Allison Murphy, 35, of Florida, was charged with animal cruelty over the incident at Motel 6 in Daytona Beach, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

Motel staff had called police reporting that Murphy attacked a maid and was threatening to jump from the second floor, the sheriff’s office said.

By the time police arrived, Murphy was locked inside her room.

When she finally opened the door, she walked out with her leashed dog, picked the animal up and threw her over the railing, according to police body camera footage of the incident.

Officers then forced Murphy to the ground and arrested her, the video shows.
The dog miraculously landed on its feet and bystanders stopped the pooch from running away.

Volusia County Animal Services is caring for the dog and nicknamed her “Miracle,” according to the sheriff’s office.

“Miracle” has a new home for the holidays.

The German shepherd dog, who earned her name by surviving uninjured after being tossed off a second-floor motel balcony, was placed in a foster home, according to Volusia County, Florida, Animal Services.

Miracle, who landed on her feet, got a checkup at an animal hospital, where a vet saw a few scrapes and bruises to her paws, and a sewing needle in the dog’s left rear thigh. It’s not clear how the needle got there, but it was added to the felony animal cruelty investigation against Murphy.

Miracle’s got a new foster parent will remain anonymous because of the ongoing criminal case, TMZ reported. She’ll have to wait until after the criminal case is resolved before she can be adopted permanently.

She should never be allowed to have any animal, or live in a home with an animal. That is one wicked heart, to throw the dog over! Miracle is a beautiful dog, I hope she lives a long life with people who love and cherish her. The female, I hope she has to spend time in jail and be punished for her horrible treatment of Miracle!

A woman who threw her dog off the balcony of a Volusia County motel is asking a judge for custody of the pet.

“I would never intentionally harm my dog and I'm willing to do anything to get my dog back,” Allison Murphy said.

Murphy has been behind bars since mid-December when deputies were called to a Daytona Beach motel. Deputies witnessed her coming out of a room then throwing her dog, named Opa May, over a second-floor balcony.

Volusia County is taking legal steps for permanent custody of the animal.

The dog survived the fall without apparent injury though a vet testified she removed a sewing needle lodged in the dog's thigh and feels the animal was traumatized from the act of violence at the motel.

Murphy, who is from Clearwater, testified she's an Iraq War veteran and has suffered from mental health issues including insomnia. She said she took a sedative before the incident and started to hallucinate.

“I thought I was saving myself and my dog by throwing her off,” Murphy said.

Murphy said she’s better now and told the judge she loves Opa May and does not want to give her up.

“I will do whatever the court prescribes, wants me to do in order to keep my dog,” Murphy said.

However, county officials argue Murphy is unfit and shouldn't be allowed to have animals.

As someone who has spent YEARS working in a hostile AO...

One one hand I know that a lot of vets got the shit end of the stick concerning their mental health issues.
But in her case my jaded side screams she's just a Green Zone REMF that saw maybe a dozen or so trips to the bunkers during her deployment (possibly, maybe, one close call, MAYBE).
Just a pill and booze junkie that tries to use their status as a vet as an excuse for their shitty behavior.

Protip - Smoke pot, works wonders for PTSD

Allison Murphy was sentenced to 303 days in jail (time already served) after entering a plea of Nolo Contendere (no contest) to animal cruelty and resisting an officer with violence. [1, 2]
According to Volusia County Court records published by Lady Freethinker, the judge withheld adjudication of guilt on both charges. In addition to jail time, Murphy was ordered to pay a $418 fine, cover the dog's emergency medical expenses, and was issued a five-year ban on owning or possessing any animals. [1, 2]
