A pair of sisters from Reno were arrested after they reportedly left two young children at a fire station in Placer County, then kept on driving.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office says the sisters pulled up at the Cal Fire station in the community of Alta on Tuesday. Two children, age 2 and 4, were then dropped off and the pair left.

One of the station’s employees was able to take a photo of the pair’s car as they drove away. Deputies located the sisters in Roseville later that afternoon. They had another child – an 8-year-old – with them at the time, the sheriff’s office says.

The sisters were then arrested on child endangerment charges. They have been identified as 47-year-old Ananda Bowman and 45-year-old Chanda Cleveland.

Deputies say Cleveland is the grandmother of the two children dropped off in Alta and the mother of the 8-year-old. She reportedly had custody of all three at the time the two children were left at the station.

All three children are now in Child Protective Services custody and were physically OK, the sheriff’s office says. Authorities are working to try and get the children back to their family in Reno.

is it only for babies?

yes it's only for babies, depending on the state, the age range is between newborn and up to about 3 months, I'm not 100% certain about the age ranges but that's pretty close. No where near 2 years old. After that you'd have to go thru the rigamarole of giving up custody to the state, and since I raised my two, I'm not sure how that works.

Hmm I thought fire stations were the kind of place you can safely drop off a kid, is it only for babies? I mean, better to leave them at the fire department and give them a chance at a better life if their living environment is inadequate. Especially at that age, they would get adopted
Yeah, I think it was only for babies, but giving them a place to leave unwanted kids - a place they won't get in trouble for it, where they aren't delayed in the drug missions or whatnot - could save so many children from winding up in dangerous and horrible situations. So, I absolutely agree with Triangulum here: better to leave then at a fire department and give them a chance at a better life.

Damn that is an old looking 47. I'm over 47, but look much younger than either of them. SKIN CARE people!!
I don't think they had time to moisturize or parent or grandparent between tanning appointments. I have a feeling a couple of tanning salons are getting ready to lose their best (and most deluded) customers.

Those mug shots! Those child abandoners are going to realize what hags they really are when they see them.

Unrelated, but I remember a few years back in Texas, when a woman saw a Safe Place sign outside a QT gas station. She left her child there & about 3 hours later, the cops came to arrest him for a "shoplifting spree" as he was walking around the store aimlessly & started helping himself to the candy & drink fountains. Then the mom was arrested for parental abandonment & neglect & threw a shit fit over it.

Moral of the story? Don't try to safe place drop a freakin 12 year old. That whole memorizing addresses & names thing kids learn in kindergarten will bite you in the ass.

I'm actually wondering if the mother of these children was into "the life". You know, the type that get into "escorting" & drugs, have children & unceremoniously drop them off at grandma's house constantly for days on end & grandma only had custody cause CPS took them away but she still wanted to 'be involved'. I've seen it happen. Then, one not so special day, grandma just can't do it anymore & doesn't look up safe place laws & regulations?

Aside from that scenario, yeah- she's a complete POS.
