Sentenced: Tucson Mom, Boyfriend Facing Murder Charges In Her 11YO Disabled Son's Death

Ariel Lea Horn, 33, and Charles Jackson McClellan Jr., 29, were charged on suspicion of first-degree murder in the November 2023 death of Horn's 11-year-old son, according to Tucson police.

The eleven-year-old boy was pronounced dead by first responders after police were called to a home about an unresponsive child in the area , according to Tucson police.

Child abuse unit detectives investigated the home and found the child suffered from multiple medical conditions and was completely dependent on his guardians, police said. The boy lived with his mother, her boyfriend and three siblings, police noted.

An autopsy report determined the boy was found with "extensive" lesions throughout his lower body and had developed sepsis, according to police. The sores on the boy's body were due to not receiving proper medical attention and due to neglect by his mother and her boyfriend, according to police. Detectives found "extensive" fentanyl use was taking place at the home, police said.

Not only is funeral costs absolutely outrageous, but I have been Eli’s caretaker as my only “job” for 11 years. I have not held an official job in all that time and the main income ( aside from the side jobs I always do) has been Eli’s social security for 11 years. I am already slightly behind on bills but now that I will not be getting his ssdi I will need some time to find a job and get caught up on bills so any extra money will go to ensuring I can find stability after not being in the working field in over a decade….. this is terrifying.

I"m sure she was wayyyyyy too busy to tend to her precious child, things like pleasing boyfriends and taking drugs take up a lot of time, she didn't have any left over for Eli, damn kid was an inconvenience!

By looking at her first pic I may surmise that her "side job" that she "always do" could of come in the form of regular "Johns", or dealing or both-either way she had some type of steady clientele huh?

That poor baby. Those lesions HURT-he would of been in constant pain and what may be even more sad is that this poor sweet boy probably thought this was just how life was, that this was normal, at least for him. Breaks my heart. RIP

An Arizona woman and her boyfriend are going to prison after their neglect of her 11-year-old special needs son led to his death.

Ariel Lea Horn, 34, received a seven-year prison sentence while her 30-year-old boyfriend Charles Jackson McClellan Jr. will spend three-and-a-half years behind bars, Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD reported. Both will receive credit for the roughly 10 months of jail time already served.

Tucson police said in a press release its investigation began in November 2023 when officers responded to a home in the 900 block of East Limberlost Drive for a report of an unresponsive child. Paramedics from the Tucson Fire Department pronounced the boy dead on scene. Detectives from the agency’s Child Physical Abuse Unit assumed the investigation and after conducting several interviews learned the boy who was “completely dependent on care from his guardians” was suffering from numerous medical conditions. Horn was the boy’s mother.

An autopsy showed he had numerous lesions throughout his lower body and subsequently developed sepsis.

“The sores on the child’s body were attributed to not receiving proper medical attention and neglect by his mother and her boyfriend,” police said.
