Teller County Animal Control Officers and detectives are investigating a felony animal abuse case where the suspect, 30-year-old Matthew Stephen Dieringer from Pueblo, is accused of killing two of his roommate’s dogs.

Dieringer is alleged to have beaten to death the victim’s brown, 7-year-old Australian Cattle Dog “Suka” and also to have killed and dismembered the victim’s other black dog, “Hayoka.” A necropsy confirmed Suka died of blunt trauma.

Police are actively looking for Dieringer. Dieringer was last seen in the Manitou Springs area and has an active felony warrant for two counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, a class six felony. He may have dyed his hair a darker color.

If you see Dieringer, do not approach him; call law enforcement.

Disgusting that this man would do such a thing to animals who possibly enjoyed his presence while their owner lived with him.

For those who may not know, Teller County is a remote county in Colorado that includes the high-elevation towns of Cripple Creek (county seat) and the adjacent, smaller Victor. They are old-fashioned tourist towns with a significant history, courtesy of mining and other attributes. Cripple Creek is more inclined toward tourism because of their litany of casinos, of which are not a common attribute in Victor. One mountain pass leading to the towns is Shelf Road.

He needs a trim. I'll scalp him for free.

After that, you'd have 99 to go.

(He may not be a literal Nazi, but he's a pet killer, so close enough.)

The Teller County Sheriff’s Office announced a man who they say killed his roommate’s dogs was recently arrested.

Officials say the suspect beat an Australian cattle dog named Suka to death, then killed and dismembered his roommate’s other dog, Hayoka.

“A necropsy confirmed Suka died of blunt trauma,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Matthew Dieringer of Pueblo. Dieringer faces two counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

The sheriff’s office announced on Monday he was arrested Sunday night at a Days Inn Motel in the Denver Tech Center.

Update 10/10/2023: VICTORY! Animal Victory has learned that Matthew Stephen Dieringer was sentenced to 18 months in prison at the Colorado Department of Corrections. After he has served his sentence, he will be on parole for one year. The parole requirement states that the defendant is not allowed to have care, custody, or ownership of an animal for three to five years unless his treatment counsel recommends that this specific parole requirement be rescinded. Thanks to everyone who signed this petition, helping us ensure that Dieringer was sentenced to prison time!
