Two Indiana parents are in jail after officers were called to help with an infant that wasn’t breathing.

Officers went to a home in Evansville just before 7 a.m. Wednesday for a 2-week-old that was not breathing.
Authorities say Evansville fire crews and AMR were already on scene trying to resuscitate the child. However, they say they couldn’t get the baby, named Wade, to start breathing again, according to WFIE.

Detectives spoke with the mother of the infant, Taylor Smith. She told them that she went to sleep with her child around 2 a.m. and woke up with the baby underneath her.
The father, Timothy Wilson, was also at the home. According to a press release, Wilson told detectives that Smith was ordered by the Department of Child Services not to be around the child due to a prior investigation.

Police say Wilson ignored the order “to be a family.”

Both Smith and Wilson were arrested and charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Officers received a warrant and say they found evidence of narcotic use.

They also say the home had no running water and conditions were unfavorable.

A jury returned a guilty verdict for an Evansville mother charged in the death of her two-week old infant in 2022
Authorities say Taylor Smith reported the child was unresponsive in June of 2022 after she went to sleep with the infant. Smith had previously been ordered by DCS to not be around the child due to a prior investigation.
Smith was found guilty of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia. Court documents show that a charge of reckless homicide has been dismissed against Smith.

While the verdict was read, Smith began yelling “no” and crying. A judge ordered her into custody, but she initially refused to comply. A person int he gallery managed to calm her down.

It is Indiana where there is no truth in sentencing so she will be reunited with meth sooner than she thinks.

The father of a 13-day-old infant that was pronounced dead in 2022 has been sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison in connection to the case.

Timothy Wilson plead guilty to neglect of a dependent and being a habitual offender. For each charge he received a sentence of 10 years in prison that is set to be served consecutively. The mother of the child, Taylor Smith, was sentenced to 30 years in prison last year.
In June of 2022, first responders were dispatched after a caller reported that a 13-day-old infant was not breathing. Police at the scene reported finding what appeared to be narcotics and paraphernalia in plain view inside of the home.
Police say the home had no running water and there was trash littered throughout the home. Wilson reportedly admitted to law enforcement that Smith was ordered by the Department of Child Services to not be around the child due to a prior investigation. The court order came after both Smith and the child tested positive for methamphetamine when the baby was born.
