A Bucks County fire chief is accused of aggravated assault against his 3-month-old daughter.

Investigators say Falls Township Fire Chief Brian Salt admitted to losing his temper as the infant cried uncontrollably, throwing the child with such force that she fractured her skull.
Police were called to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to investigate on March 12.

"Largely based around a skull fracture on the right side of the rear of the head," said Det. Dennis O'Connell with the Falls Township Police Department. "They mentioned there was some unexplained bleeding in and around the eye and some bruising on the child's legs."
After speaking with medical staff and the baby's parents, police say there was no explanation as to how the baby was hurt.

"The story was there was no story. Both parents were drawing a blank as far as any type of mechanism or how the injury could have occurred," said O'Connell.

Then Salt and his wife were brought in to police Thursday for another interview. Salt told police his baby had colic, and was inconsolable that day while his wife was at work.
"In his own words, he just kind of lost control. Lost his cool. And in the process of actually picking her up from a swing, he took her out of the swing and then threw her to the ground," said O'Connell.
Falls Township Fire Company released a statement saying in part: "Chief Salt has been suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. During this challenging time, our thoughts and prayers are with the Salt family."

Salt is also a paid firefighter/EMT for Northampton Township. He's now on administrative leave.

I can understand being frustrated with a crying infant that you can't seem to do anything about as they keep crying and crying and crying. But the baseline minimum is to be patient enough with the infant so as to not slam them to the ground. That is despicable, criminally abusive behavior, and no adult has any legitimate reason to do that to a baby or child.

i also had a baby with collic... i was close to becoming one of the walking dead before my baby finally stopped crying for hours at a time.. he is now very much all grown up with grandkids of his own and not once did either of his parents got crossed with him because it wasn't his fault but at times i was crossed with myself for not being able to do more to relieve his pain...

My younger son had reflux, he was either crying because he was hungry or puking because he ate, constantly until he was about 15 months old and then it just stopped, but even after that he was a whiner, he whined about everything, and the whining just about did me in. But he still lives, he's 40 now, doesn't whine so much anymore, but even if he did, he's got his girlfriend to tend to him now. Not me, the whining was way worse than the crying.

One of my sons had colic. Holy shit, was that intense. Sleep deprivation, working resident hours and single parenting (husband was working in another state at the time) made for some nightmare inducing months. I could feel my body tense up and the anger rising. So I simply placed him in a safe place and wwent to the bathroom with the shower running for five minutes of relief. If it gets too hard, just put the baby somewhere safe and give yourself 5-10 mins away. No baby ever died in 10 mins from fussing.
