A mother was charged after a toddler was found riding a bike naked down a street in the middle of the night, according to the Gastonia Police Department.

The 3-year-old child was found riding his bike without any clothes on around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Records show the temperature at the time was about 46 degrees.

Police said the child did not know where he lived, so the Department of Social Services was called.

After investigating further, police arrested the child’s mother, 32-year-old Andrea Melinda Johnson, and charged her with child abuse and resisting arrest. According to the arrest warrant, the second charge came after Johnson tried to push past the officers as she was being detained then resisted as they attempted to cuff her.

One woman working nearby her home tells WBTV she has called police and social services in the past.

“He was out here in a Pamper crawling into Union Road, which is a busy street," she said. "So I grabbed him and took him back.”

According to police records, they were called to the house for a family offense involving a juvenile in December.

A family member told WBTV the child is well taken care of and she is shocked that this happened.

The 3-year-old is okay and remains in the custody of social services.

Her next excuse will be grandmother was babysitting. So she lives off of a ninety year old woman's pension or retirement.. delves in drugs.. and can't keep up with a three year old! Why wasn't that wee one clean, potty trained, in warm pjs and tucked into a clean bed in a warm clean loving house. Custody denied.. loose all parental rights severed period.

This is just weird. I feel like most 3 year olds, if VERY determined, would be able to sneak out of the house naked and go for a bike ride in the middle of the night while their parents were sleeping, if that is what they intended to do. The thing is, most 3 year olds are not going to go for a naked bike ride in the middle of the night. They want to sneak into their parents' beds. Or at the very worst, steal junk food. I don't think it's necessarily neglectful to not make your house 100% inescapable. So is this kid a balls-to-the-wall hyperactive crack baby who up and decided to leave, is mom letting him stay up all night naked while she does fuck-all, or a combination of both!?

If you have a child that is like you described.. a heathen.. you have a responsibility to make sure your house is inescapable. My daughter was fascinated about opening doors or following you outside when you didn't realise it. She became a pro at the child safety door covers. She however had not been able to reach the deadbolt. We relied on the deadbolts. As an added precaution we added window locks and slide latch locks at the very top of the doors heading outside. My child never busted out for a girls night out with the dogs and was never found wandering. As a parent you have the responsibility of being one thought ahead. And years later she snuck herself out.. guess what kept her out to teach her a lesson.. she had a wonderful summer night sleeping in the porch swing in the backyard with the humidity and misquitos..

I've heard of many parents having to take such measures. My now 4 year old was never like that (I realize how lucky I am!!). So my thinking was, if she was really that determined to go bike riding naked while I was sleeping, well she would not have much of a problem doing it!
