A DoorDash driver delivered food from Provo to Millcreek -- all while having a woman and toddler kidnapped inside his vehicle, deputies with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office allege.

According to a probable cause statement obtained by 2News, shortly after midnight Monday morning, a woman called police saying 36-year-old Drew Robert Hartung kidnapped her was beating her inside his car -- all while delivering food for DoorDash.
The woman said Hartung threatened to kill her multiple times if she ever left the car. She told police that Hartung beat her with his fists, a flashlight and used a gardening tool to threaten her life.

She also says Hartung had dragged her from the back of the car to the front. Police say the woman had injuries consistent with being beaten and dragged.
The woman says she didn't leave the car while Hartung was making his deliveries because he knows where she lives and he told her if she left the car that he would kill her.

At one time the pair had a relationship and a child together. That 3-year-old child was in the car during the entire ordeal, police say. Police were able to locate and arrest Hartung in a Macey's parking lot.

Police believe Hartung should not be let out of jail because it "would constitute a substantial danger to an alleged victim."

So he bashes her with the scared kid in the backseat grabs the food makes the delivery to the unsuspecting customer and says: here’s your hot food got it here on time don’t forget to tip have a great night! Then goes back to bashing the girl again. What a pussy. The food must been stashed in the backseat where the kid was otherwise the psycho delivery pus would’ve been delivering squashed bags of food. Hope she has opportunity to bash him senseless with a tire iron.

Drew Robert Hartung was convicted for a high-profile domestic violence and kidnapping case stemming from a January 2020 incident. He was recently arrested again in July 2024 for an unrelated, severe home invasion. [1, 2]

Previous Conviction (2020 Incident)
In January 2020, Hartung was arrested in Utah after holding his girlfriend and their 3-year-old child hostage inside his vehicle while he was making DoorDash food deliveries. During the multi-city delivery route, he brutally assaulted the woman with his fists, a flashlight, and a gardening tool, threatening to kill her if she tried to escape. [1, 2]
He was subsequently convicted of charges related to this incident and served prison time

New Charges and Arrest (July 2024)
On July 17, 2024, the 41-year-old Hartung was arrested again by the Draper Police Department. He is accused of breaking into a random residential home in Draper, Utah, through a back door at 3:30 a.m. and getting into bed with a woman who lived there. [1]
He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail and faced the following criminal charges: [1, 2]
  • Aggravated burglary
  • Theft
  • Possession of a weapon by a restricted person
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
For his initial 2020 domestic violence and kidnapping case, Drew Robert Hartung did not receive a standard prison sentence. Instead, he took a guilty in abeyance plea to amended charges. [1]
  • The 2020 Case Outcome: Because he successfully completed all court-ordered terms of his plea agreement, the domestic violence and kidnapping case was formally dismissed in 2022.

He is currently in jail
