Following a missing child search that began early Friday afternoon, Cheyenne Police discovered the body of 2-year-old Athian Rivera in a Dumpster.

CPD, along with members of the Laramie County Sheriff’s Department, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, Cheyenne Fire Rescue and Laramie County Fire District 2 were involved in the search, according to information shared by CPD Public Information Officer Alexandra Farkas at a news conference about the incident late Friday afternoon.

Farkas said a reverse 911 call was sent out to locate the child within half a mile of his last known location; social media was used to try to find Rivera; and the child’s name was included in a national missing children database.

A K-9 unit was also involved in the search for Rivera, Farkas said.

The search ended when Rivera’s body was found in the Dumpster.

“This is an active investigation,” Farkas said, noting that she would not be taking additional questions from reporters. “There is no danger to the public.”

Any additional information about the investigation would be released on CPD’s Facebook page, Farkas said.

:(

This is what the 400 block of Desmet Drive looks like.

There is an apartment complex a short ways south of that location, it's got dumpsters as below (street view from 2011). I don't know if those are the ones, but they are the closest I can make out. There are 2 other apartment complexes in the general area, they are a bit farther out, and one is too new for a 2011 street view.

I wonder what the police will find on this.

I did know the mom. It was in a professional capacity, so I can’t say too much. I remember her being sweet, and naive, but troubled and sad. I know there’s no details really but (sort of) knowing her and the circumstances (and the fact it’s a DD theme.) I’m going to say she definitely got mixed up with a bad dude and now this. Life is so cruel. The baby didn’t deserve this. And from what I recall she wasn’t the child killer type. She was focused on turning things around for herself. That being said, it’s probably been 7-9 years since I interacted with her. Her life could have very well taken a different twist. I hope not though.

I think zero chance a 3 year old got himself into one of the dumpsters i put pics up of, and also, died immediately after. Also he would have had to have been like a little homing missile to actually find those dumpsters (those being the closest ones). In the pic. house # 425 is the last house in the 400-block, the 500 starts one house south.

Is that why they've said there's no danger to the public?
Suggests to me that they firmly believe it was not a stranger killing.

Cheyenne police say an autopsy on the body of 2-year-old Athian Rivera has found no conclusive cause of death for the toddler.

"We did receive autopsy results, but there wasn't a conclusive cause of death or anything like that," Public Information Officer Alex Farkas told KGAB Radio Monday afternoon.

On Feb. 23, police announced they were recommending murder and aggravated child abuse charges against Lamb, but the Laramie County District Attorney's Office has yet to file any charges in the case.

"We've just continued working with the district attorney and that's pretty much where we're at right now," said Farkas. "We're still not able to identify any other subjects, but that affidavit was turned over so now it's kind of a waiting game."

Wonder what the charges will be if any other than unlawful, inappropriate disposal of a body?

A Wyoming man suspected of killing a toddler boy apparently strangled the child’s mother previously but was still living with her despite a judge ordering him not to.

Laramie Live reports that Laramie County District Court Judge Catherine Rogers ordered 27-year-old Wyatt Lamb to remain behind bars without bail for breaking his bond conditions from a previous charge. Although Lamb is suspect of killing 1-year-old Athian Rivera, the prosecution hasn’t yet charged him since the initial autopsy reports were inconclusive.

Lamb was arrested, however, for reportedly breaking bond requirements after he was found to be living with the child’s mother, Kassandra Orona, who he’s accused of strangling during an unrelated case that occurred last year. The victim told police at the time that Lamb hit her in the back of the head and put her in a chokehold from behind.

District Attorney Leigh Anne Grant Manlove said that Lamb was living with Orona at the time of Athian’s death, which was a direct violation of his bond agreement.

“At the time of that arrest he was at the apartment of Kassandra Orona who is the victim in this strangulation case,” District Attorney Leigh Anne Grant Manlove told the court. “She also is the surety who posted his $6,000 cash bond last April.”

Someone explain to me how a death unexplained results in murder charges.. that will be thrown out so quick.. he’s going to get jack shit for breaking bond because she let him live there.. maybe a misdemeanor assault charge some lame sentence for body disposal and she’ll end up with probation because they’re letting her play the victim.. as a person who has experienced DV.. you walk away and never look back.. if your dumbass decides to keep going back you are risking your life.. in this case her children’s lives.. at some point people are going to stop helping you and protecting you.. that’s my two cents..
