A Foster mother will spend the next 20 years behind bars for the brutal abuse of a child.

Marissa Salas, who was 19 at the time, was convicted of Injury to a Child - Causing Serious Bodily Injury, alongside the child's foster father, 24-year-old Thomas Torres.

Court records say that in June 2022, Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a child experiencing a seizure.
The deputies rushed the child to a local hospital, where medical staff observed that the child had suffered various severe injuries, including burn and bite marks, and a skull fracture believed to have been caused by blunt-force trauma.

The trauma to the child's skull lead to a life-threatening brain bleed, which doctors did not believe the child would survive.

During initial questioning, Salas claimed she was unaware of the injuries, however, she later admitted that her boyfriend had been abusing the child for several weeks prior to the seizure.
Despite her severe injuries, the child was able to make a full recovery, and has since been placed in a loving home with her foster parents.
