Daniel Nixon

A fifth man has been arrested on charges stemming from a year-long police investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy in Upper Gwynedd Township.

Court records show 25-year-old Daniel Nixon was arrested on July 28 and arraigned on felony counts of rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors, child pornography, and soliciting child pornography, stemming from the investigation.
According to the criminal complaint, Nixon and the boy began communicating on the Grindr app — and later Discord — in August 2023. Police allege the communications were sexual in nature, including Nixon soliciting nude photos of the boy, and they agreed to meet in-person the following day.
Nixon allegedly picked up the boy in his father’s vehicle, and after riding around the neighborhood for a short period, he sexually assaulted the boy inside the vehicle, police said. Nixon then said he had to get home to his father, dropped the boy off, blocked him on Discord and never spoke to him again, according to charging documents.

Police said they traced the digital communications and IP addresses to accounts belonging to Nixon and his home along the unit block of Park Avenue in Hatfield Township. The victim also positively identified Nixon out of a photo lineup as part of the investigation, the affidavit states.
As originally reported by North Penn Now in April, the investigation began on Sept. 7, 2023 when a 12-year-old boy was reported missing to Upper Gwynedd Police. Officials said a review of the boy’s iPad showed he had been involved in sexual communications with 24-year-old Nicholas Benotto, of Doylestown, and the two had agreed to meet at the time the boy was last seen.

While driving with the boy, Benotto was contacted by a family member who informed him that police wanted to speak with him regarding the boy’s whereabouts, investigators said. Benotto then drove to the William Penn Inn, where police took custody of the boy and conducted a preliminary investigation with Benotto, according to the criminal complaint.

Benotto then drove to the William Penn Inn, where police took custody of the boy and conducted a preliminary investigation with Benotto, according to the criminal complaint.
Benotto told investigators that he met the boy on the Grindr dating app the previous day, with the boy claiming to be 18 years old, police said. Benotto added he and the boy engaged in sexual communications, sent each other explicit photos, and then agreed to meet, according to charging documents.

Throughout his interviews with police, Benotto maintained he didn’t know the boy was 12 years old, and messages sent by Benotto to the boy included “Can you prove your age,” “How old are you,” and “School id, or something,” according to charging documents. Benotto also claimed the boy said he had lost his wallet and driver’s license, so he was unable to verify his age, police said.
As the investigation unfolded, police said they conducted a forensic download of the boy’s phone and iPad, which allegedly showed additional sexual communications with other men, including 24-year-old Joseph Slover, of Towamencin, 21-year-old Tristan Anderson, of Upper Providence, and 31-year-old Brock Tharp, of Bally.

Police said Slover and the boy began engaging in text-based sexual conversations before arranging to meet on the afternoon of Aug. 28, 2023. Once the boy said his mother had left his home, he rode his bike to a parking lot where he was picked up by Slover and taken to Slover’s apartment, according to the criminal complaint.

The boy told police he engaged in sex with Slover on his bed, adding that Slover repeatedly referred to him as “kid” during their interactions. Afterwards, Slover took the boy back to his neighborhood and ceased all communication, with the boy believing Slover had blocked his phone number, police said.

One of five men who sexually abused a 12-year-old Upper Gwynedd Township child he met on a social media app has been sentenced to two to four years in state prison for his crimes.
Daniel Allan Nixon,26, pleaded guilty to felony statutory sexual assault earlier this year in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

Nine other felony charges were dismissed against Nixon at his preliminary hearing: Rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, corruption of minors, child pornography, and soliciting child pornography, according to court documents.
“I messed up,” Daniel Allan Nixon told Montgomery County Judge Steven T. O’Neill at the July 21 sentencing, according to The Mercury, adding he wishes he could “undo the hurt” that he caused the victim and his family. “I wish I could erase the trauma and shame I put my family through.
Nixon will be on two years’ consecutive probation.

Nixon will serve his time at State Correctional Institution Laurel Highlands in Somerset County, which has services for inmates with special medical needs. The court did not reveal Nixon’s medical conditions.

He will also be required to report his address to state police for 25 years to comply with the state’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act, previously known as Megan’s Law, per the court.
The victim, now 13, wrote that there are limited things he can do “without being triggered.” “I am not able to go for walks around my neighborhood without having panic attacks and going down streets which remind me of this situation making me not only want to throw up, but give me the most indescribable fear and anxiety,” the victim wrote, according to the article. “Some days I can’t help but scream and cry because of how badly I’ve been hurt.”
According to the criminal complaint, Nixon and the child began communicating on the Grindr app — and later Discord — in August 2023. Police allege the communications were sexual in nature, including Nixon soliciting nude photos of the child, and they agreed to meet in-person the following day.

Nixon picked up the child in his father’s vehicle, and after riding around the neighborhood for a short period, he sexually assaulted the child inside the vehicle, police said. Nixon then said he had to get home to his father, dropped the child off, blocked the child on Discord and never spoke to the youth again.

Brock Isaac Tharp, 32, pleaded guilty to statutory sexual assault in December, in connection with the Aug. 29, 2023 incident.

Charges of rape of a child, indecent assault of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault of a minor and corruption of a minor are expected to be dismissed at sentencing, per The Reporter.
Tharp was given 4½ to 9 years in a state prison and must report his address to police for the rest of his life to comply with the state’s Sexual Offender Registration and Notification Act, previously known as Megan’s Law.

According to The Mercury, Judge William R. Carpenter, who accepted the sentencing agreement reached between prosecutors and the defense, also ordered Tharp to complete three years’ probation following parole, meaning Tharp will be under court supervision for 12 years.
Tharp's defense lawyer Brendan Campbell said Tharp is remorseful in the report.

“He was very remorseful from the beginning of this, and that’s the reason why he never wanted to contest anything. He accepts responsibility,” said Campbell, adding that at the time of the incident, Tharp was dealing with drug addiction issues, per the article. “Certainly, he wasn’t making sound decisions at the time when he did this.”
Investigators learned that the boy had engaged in sexual communications with Tharp, and the two arranged to meet on Aug. 29, 2023. In a forensic interview with Mission Kids, the boy stated Tharp had picked him up and drove to a different location, where they had sex in Tharp’s vehicle, the report states. The following day, the boy contacted Tharp to retrieve a personal item left in the vehicle, as well as to arrange another meeting, however the second meeting never took place and Tharp stopped responding to the boy’s messages for a period, police said.
Communication resumed in January after investigators reached out to Tharp using an undercover phone number and posing as the boy, court records show. At that point, sexual communication resumed, and Tharp allegedly discussed the first meeting while requesting some photos of the boy, according to charging documents.

Joseph Edward Slover, 25, was given 2½ to 6 years by Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Risa Vetri Ferman this week for admitting to his crime and must register as a sex offender for 25 years, according to court records.
Six of the seven sexually-based offenses lodged against Slover were dismissed in a plea agreement; Slover pleaded guilty in July to a felony charge of statutory sexual assault in connection with incidents that occurred on Aug. 28, 2023, in Towamencin and Upper Gwynedd townships.

Nicholas Benotto, 24, was sent right to jail Wednesday after being sentenced to 11½ to 23 months on a misdemeanor corruption of minors charge, according to Montgomery County Common Pleas Court documents.
Judge Thomas M. DelRicci also ordered Benotto to complete three years’ consecutive probation, meaning he will be under court supervision for about five years, according to court records. His sentencing includes required sex offender supervision while serving the sentence. Benotto must comply with all recommendations for treatment or counseling following a psychosexual evaluation, according to the court order.
He is to have no contact with the victim and is prohibited from having unsupervised contact with other minors.

The fifth and final defendant in the case involving the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old Upper Gwynedd boy has admitted to having sex with the youth whom he met on a social media messaging platform.

Under a plea agreement, Tristan James Anderson, 22, pleaded guilty Monday in Montgomery County Court to a felony charge of statutory sexual assault in connection with incidents that occurred in August 2023 in Upper Gwynedd, according to court documents.
According to The Reporter, Anderson will be sentenced later this year to 2½ to 6 years in state prison, followed by two years of consecutive probation, for a total of eight years of court supervision.
Per the report, arrest documents showed that during one conversation, Anderson told the juvenile, “I have some baggage like everyone else these days. I have anxiety. I have issues with staying focused. I’ve had issues in the past with substance abuse and I’m a total train wreck mentally most days, but you make me happy.”

With Anderson’s prosecution, it closes the case, at least on paper, in an investigation that began on Sept. 7, 2023 when a 12-year-old boy was reported missing to Upper Gwynedd Police.

I would love to see the look on these fucktards faces after inmates get their grubby paws on them! Although, death is more appropriate, exterminate!!

God they need to watch this kid so close! Reminds me so much of one of the boys I worked with (13 years as a Juvenile Correctional Counselor, specialized in Sex Offenders, boys age 12-21, maxsec).

This kid had been sexually abused by a neighbor for years. Parents found out, guy went to prison, kid went to therapy. Kid was brilliant, manipulative, no emotional empathy - he knew when he did wrong, knew he hurt people, just didn't care, it didn't touch him. I'm getting ahead of myself.

Kid enjoys sex. He's now 11yo. He uses the Sex Offender Registry like a dating app. I'm serious. It's mind blowing. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been his Counselor. He finds RSOs nearby and rides his bike over to their houses and just knocks on doors. Some panic and slam the door. Some are more than happy to oblige. Nobody reports him because who would believe it?

Kid turns 12, his younger brother turns 10, and he decides it's time to initiate bro. He starts to molest his little bro and bro's friends (but not until they're 10, he thought under 10 was too young). He never takes bro to the grown RSOs, but he does take bro's friends. The RSOs give kid all kinds of gifts in exchange - money, games, etc.

A parent of one of the 10yos finally finds out, the whole thing comes crashing down. Kid gets 12 charges of Molest and sent to Juvenile - at 12 years old - and ordered to lifetime registry. The RSOs of course all went to prison. They'd been swapping kids like Pokémon cards.

Kid continued to act out sexually in juvenile. He got better at keeping things quiet. He polished his manipulation skills on both staff and students (inmates). Every major issue in the facility always led back to him, like the Godfather. It entertained him. Kid was brilliant, and bored. We had to release him the day before his 22nd birthday, set him up in a transitional group home.

Outwardly, he did great for a few years. Finished college, good job, living independently, coloring inside the lines. Then the first parent found out. Guess who was networking again.

So today he's 37 and in prison for more child sex offenses, and has been for a few years.

Anyway, they need to watch this kid. The kid is a victim, but his use of Grindr and seeking it out, and his age - I've seen this show before.
