A 10-month-old baby girl died after her mother claimed she forgot the child when she was killed into work.

The mother told police she wasn’t able to get in touch with her babysitter, so she drove to work and forgot the child in her car.

The mother told investigators that the child had been in the car for about an hour and a half.

The child was taken to Ochsner Hospital in critical condition at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13 and pronounced dead at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.

A Jennings woman whose child died after being left in a hot car last week has been charged with murder, jail records show.

Hannah Faith Cormier, 32, of Jennings is charged with second-degree murder and cruelty to juveniles, according to the Jeff Davis Parish Jail booking report.
Cormier is charged in connection with the death of her 10-month-old daughter, whom she allegedly left in the back of a car inadvertently Tuesday afternoon after being called into work.

How long was this drive that she somehow went from trying to find a babysitter and failing, to driving to work and forgetting she needed a babysitter for anything in the first place?

I have diagnosed illnesses that affect my memory and even I would not have forgotten in these circumstances.

finding a babysitter is usually done by phone call not taking your child in the car to find a sitter and even if that was the case here wouldn't the normal re-action after a "call to sitter's house you can think of" was made, to call work and said sorry can't find a sitter in such a short notice and to call someone else to replace her and not just drive to work with the child in the car?? i call b.s. on the mom forgetting the child was in her car and more like mom thought heck it is only for a few hours he/she will be ok in the car .. if she couldn't get in touch with a sitter then why have the child in the car? if you drove to sitter hoping to leave your child with sitter then why did she drive to work from there?? yea b.s. she forgot

The ex-husband of Hannah Faith Cormier, the mother facing charges in connection with her 10-month-old daughter’s death, said he filed a report against the mother in 2016 for an alleged incident involving his then 4-month-old child.
Nick Ashworth said the 2016 report accused Cormier of shoving his infant daughter’s head into a pillow to stop her from crying.

“No one ever believed me,” Ashworth said. “Then, the police reports were never to be found when I went to court. And then, now all of a sudden, they found them. This is pretty much helping the case.”

Cormier, 32, is facing charges of second-degree murder and cruelty to juveniles, according to booking records.
Ashworth said he is in disbelief over everything that has taken place.
“I don’t love Hannah, but I still have love for her because she’s the mother of my two other kids with her,” Ashworth said. “When I heard of the news, I was shocked.”
Ashworth said he is seeking to get custody of his children moving forward.

“I will be speaking to detectives as well as the department of child and family services moving forward,” Ashworth said. “There hasn’t been a decision yet, but as far as I know, I’ll gladly be going to pick up my kids whenever I get the phone call to come get your kids.”

A Jennings woman who allegedly admitted to leaving her baby in a hot car, causing the child’s death, has been released from jail after her charge and bond were reduced.

Hannah Faith Cormier, 32, told police she accidentally left her 10-month-old child in her car for around two hours when she was called into work on Aug. 13, Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes said. The baby girl was hospitalized and died the next night.
Cormier was arrested on Aug. 18 on counts of second-degree murder and cruelty to juveniles. Her bond was set at $1 million.

A grand jury indicted Cormier on a charge of negligent homicide on Oct. 2. Her bond was reduced to $10,000 on Oct. 16, and she was released from jail later that day.

A Jennings mother charged with murder after her 10-month-old daughter died in a hot car entered a plea to a lesser charge.
District Attorney Lauren Heinen said Hannah Cormier, 33, of Jennings, pleaded no contest to negligent homicide.

Under Louisiana law, the maximum sentence for negligent homicide is 10 years, up to a $5,000 fine, or both. However, because the victim is under 10 years old, the law mandates enhanced penalties, meaning Cormier must serve at least two years of her sentence at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

Today, Judge Steve Gunnell sentenced Hannah Faith Cormier to serve five years at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence, according to Jeff Davis District Attorney Lauren Heinen.
On Aug. 13, 2024, Cormier brought her 10-month-old daughter to a local hospital after she had been left in a hot car. Cormier’s daughter died in the hospital the following night.

According to Jennings police, Cormier said she drove to work and forgot her daughter was in her car. Cormier’s work records indicate she was at work for two hours. Investigators determined the internal temperature of the vehicle was from 140° to 150°.
