No one is going to be able to tell this baby nothing...

A man shot his 6-month-old baby multiple times Friday at a home northwest of Phoenix after taking the infant and its mother captive, but the mother escaped with minor injuries and the child was expected to survive, authorities said.

They said the status of the suspect remained unknown after a fire broke out during a standoff with police.

Officers went to the home in the city of Surprise in response to an emergency call around 11:30 a.m. from a woman who said she and her baby had been held captive there since 3 a.m. by the child's father, police said.

The woman managed to escape and borrowed a cellphone from a nearby construction crew, Sgt. Rick Hernandez said during a news conference Friday. He said she told the dispatcher the infant was still inside the home and could be in danger.

Officers heard gunfire from inside the house as they arrived, Hernandez said. They entered and found the baby with multiple gunshot wounds but did not see the father. They retrieved the child and retreated.

“The infant victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital in serious condition, but injuries are believed to be non-life threatening,” Surprise police said in a statement Friday night. “The female victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was transported to the hospital to be with the child.”

SWAT officers surrounded the home in the afternoon, and Hernandez said investigators believed the man was still there.

A fire broke out during the standoff with police, police said in their statement Friday night. The suspect was believed to still be in the home but his status was unknown, they said.

There's no way in fucking hell I'd leave my defenseless baby with a POS who kidnapped us to get help then come back later. The baby is 6 months old, just pick her up while you BOTH run to safety?! No, let's choose ourself and just hope the psycho with a gun won't hurt the kid  Seems pretty selfish she'd just save herself first. "You don't know what you'd do until you're in that situation" Nah, I am 1000% sure I'd risk getting killed myself if it meant saving my child, without question, no matter the circumstances. Sorry not sorry.

Surprise police have identified the suspect involved in a standoff with authorities that left a 6-month-old baby hospitalized and a home destroyed on Friday.
On Saturday, Surprise police say 51-year-old Todd Christopher Marchetti was involved in Friday’s hostage situation. His remains were later found in the home, which caught fire after an hours-long standoff.

Police say it appeared he shot himself in the head. The cause of death is still pending the results of a medical examiner’s report.
The baby boy, who was shot multiple times, remains in the hospital in critical but stable condition, according to police.

Yep, I've always been told to yell "FIRE!" if I ever need help detrimentally, no matter the circumstances.

The 7-month-old boy shot during a standoff situation in Surprise last May is making a remarkable recovery. His grandparents say it's nothing short of a miracle.

"He's getting his teeth in, he's starting to walk," Susan Norman said.
They're both milestones Susan and her husband Michael feared would never happen.

"To hear him laugh, I love to hear him laugh," Susan said. "It brings me so much joy."

"There are miracles because he is one," Michael said.

On May 17, the Normans' then 7-month-old grandson, Jaxson, was living with his mother, Allie, in his grandparents' home when the boy's father, Todd Marchetti, broke in and held them hostage for nearly eight hours.

"How do I describe that day?" Michael said. "It's hard to describe. He came to kill us. That was his objective. Then he found out we were on vacation, so he had to change his plan. That meant torturing Allie and taking Jaxson away, burning our house."

"And killing our dog," Susan added. "I think that was because we weren't there for him to hurt us, so he wanted to hurt us in other ways. Hurting the baby would hurt us, burning the house would hurt us, killing the dog. He was a monster. A horrible person."

Allie eventually escaped and got help. Jaxson was still inside, however, in a daring rescue, officers got him out. Jaxson had been shot.

"Every day Todd haunts me," Susan said. "Every day. I try to not think about it."

"We thought he (Jaxson) was dead," Michael said. "I mean who gets shot five times from point-blank range and lives through it?"

Jaxson was taken to Phoenix Children's Hospital where the family feared the worst.

He had been shot in the foot, hand, shoulder and small intestine and knicked his colon. Doctors told the Normans Jaxson was a fighter.
