No Justice: Nurse In Lakeland Arrested For Poisoning Neighbors' Pets, Sheriff Grady Judd Says

At a press conference at the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Grady Judd detailed the case saying that it was conducted by the PCSO's Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit and that it began on Aug. 16.

Deputies were called as one family's chihuahua, Daisy, and two cats, Pancake and Luna, died "in horrific distress."

A necropsy found that all three animals had ingested Phorate, a pesticide chemical used in insecticides.

When deputies began the investigation, they questioned the family's neighbor, Tamesha Knighten, 51,. Knighten had been seen on surveillance camera carrying a Styrofoam bowl of canned chicken and leaving it out for the animals.

According to Judd, Knighten told investigators she left food out for the all animals in the neighborhood, claiming that she had too much to lose as a nurse to have killed her neighbors' pets. She added that Daisy, Pancake and Luna had come into her yard before and she wondered if they had accidentally gotten into some of the ant killer she had left around her property.

Investigators took samples from the dead pets as well as samples of Knighten's ant killer and samples from the Styrofoam bowl of chicken she had left out. According to Judd, Knighten claimed there was nothing in it except for her "special seasoning."

After months of analysis and collaboration between investigators and veterinary labs at the University of Florida, Texas A&M, and Michigan State, investigators determined that the chicken had been laced with Phorate. No ant killer was found in the pets' systems.


Deputies subsequently arrested Knighten on three charges of animal cruelty.

Why hurt your neighbor's pets? Any dog or cat who comes to our yard is welcome. They will get spoiled when they come to visit us and Ursa loves to play with other dogs. It's been too long since she's been to the dog park and she doesn't get to play with as many dogs during the winter season.

She thought no one would care about animals, cuz she doesn't. I feel a visceral hate for this walking, talking turd. Whos' lashes reak of amateur application. I hope she gets mauled to death by dogs on her way to sentencing, if someone even likes her nasty, crusty ass enough to post bail.

Im sooo happy they are taking this case seriously, put a lot of work,time and effort into the investigation and the woman who did this is held liable.

I agree. I wish it was safe for all pets to roam outside, it simply isn't. I have a feeling this evil cunt sees pets as accessories, nothing more than handbags. I hope she gets attacked by wild dogs in the jail to prison transfer, "accidentally."

I think she should lose her nursing license, because I doubt she’s going to get any serious jail time and how can she be trusted now not to harm human patients.

There was a woman that worked at the same place with Mr. Cubby, there was an old mama dog who would come thru there occasionally because Mr. Cubby would feed her, this woman claimed to be scared of dogs but she would lure "Little Sister" over to her with food and then throw rocks at her. Mr. Cubby absolutely despised her, it's one thing to be scared and not want them around but it's entirely another to lure them up to you and then try to hurt them.

This Nurse person, would lure them to her yard to poison them, that's several step beyond protecting yourself and/or your property.

When ever my GrandDog is over for a visit , he is on his lead or I’m watching him in the yard, I don’t let him out of my sight! A Big Thankyou to the Vet Labs at U of Florida, Texas A& M and Michigan State University for analysis and determination of the poison! I Absolutely Love that this crime took a precedence and that she is being prosecuted for this crime! I have a very special love for my sweet pets and treat them with love and care, don’t mess with my sweeties!!

It's sad that when I read a story out of Florida I can almost always guess their occupation based on the title. My gut told me she was going to be a nurse. Although, with the age of the population there in Central Florida, I guess it wasn't that much of a stretch, was it?
