No Justice: 2nd Scumbag Charged In Warren Animal Cruelty Case That Led To Dog’s Death

Another person is facing a felony charge in an animal cruelty case that led to a dog being euthanized in Warren.

A prohibitions concerning companion animals charge was filed against Stephanie Swegan in Warren Municipal Court on Friday.

Healthy Hearts and Paws Project founder Jason Cooke says it’s related to the May 10 discovery of a dog he named Baby.


The dog was found lying at the bottom of the basement steps in a home on Oak Knoll Avenue.

Cooke says Baby was emaciated and dehydrated, and had a mass with an open wound and infection. He described it as the worst case of animal neglect he’s seen.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian but it was too late.

Thomas Leimkuehler has also been charged in the case.

Thomas Leimkuehler, 44, was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty in January to one count of cruelty against companion animals. Judge Cynthia Westcott also ordered Leimkuehler to serve 45 days of his 180-day jail sentence, suspending 135 days. In addition, he was ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and pay $321 in restitution to an animal charity, and he is prohibited from purchasing any type of animal for a pet during the time of his probation.

Leimkuehler was charged following a May 2025 incident at his Oak Knoll Avenue home, where an emaciated dog was found chained up in the basement. The animal later died.

An employee in Judge Sean O’Brien’s court tells 21 News 54-year-old Stephanie Swegan is sentenced to 45 days in jail, followed by three years of probation on a first-degree misdemeanor charge of cruelty to companion animals.

The charge was originally a fifth-degree felony, but it was dropped to a misdemeanor as part of a plea agreement.

As part of her probation, Swegan cannot purchase, possess or own any animals. She also must complete 200 hours of community service and pay $321.18 in restitution to the Healthy Hearts & Paws Project.

another pair of fat f*&ks that starved a living being to death grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr heck i cook for myself but also for my dog plus of course dry food for doggie i just add a little big to the food i cook and do not put salt in it and only seasonings that i know a dog can have and add salt if needed in my own food, i mush it down for her and add some fruits etc she needs in her diet to it and that is her and my supper... i do the same if i make stews or home made soups and as i live alone i freeze what we don't eat that day in small containers for her and bigger ones for me lol and on days that i have something she shouldn't eat i take out one of her small containers and warm up for her ... living on a tight budget it is healthier for her and cheaper for me than buying her wet food...
