The body of a missing 12-year-old boy with autism was found near a canal, and coroners believe he died following an alligator attack, according to officials.

Bryan Vasquez's body was found in a lagoon on Tuesday, Aug. 26, nearly two weeks after he was reported missing, New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said at a news conference.

The Orleans Parish Coroner determined that the cause of death was blunt trauma consistent with an alligator attack and subsequent drowning, according to an email the NOPD Public Affairs Division shared with USA TODAY.

The 12-year-old went missing on Aug. 14, when he left his house on the east side of New Orleans, according to CBS News. He escaped through a bedroom window.

At around 5:20 a.m. local time, on the day Vasquez went missing, doorbell footage captured the child, who is nonspeaking, walking down the street alone.

Kirkpatrick formally requested that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries "eradicate" nuisance alligators, she said during the news conference.

Louisiana has one of the largest alligator populations, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. The state has a population of over one million wild alligators.

New Orleans and Louisiana in general--you've got much larger problems that need eradicating than the gators. Trust me son.

All alligators can be a nuisance when you're in their 'hood.

WDSU Investigates has uncovered court documents detailing a troubling past for Hilda Vasquez, 34, the mother of Bryan Vasquez, a 12-year-old nonverbal boy with autism whose body was recovered this week from a lagoon near the area where he went missing two weeks ago.

Court records reveal that Hilda Vasquez, previously convicted of simple cruelty, regained custody of her son despite documentation of severe injuries he sustained in 2013.
In November 2013, a 3-month-old boy was rushed to the hospital after an incident in which he began vomiting blood and stopped breathing, according to court records. The infant was diagnosed with a pneumothorax (collapsed lung), retinal hemorrhages, fractured ankles, fractured legs, and a fractured skull. Further evaluation revealed a punctured lung. Doctors concluded the injuries were consistent with child abuse.
Court documents state that Hilda Vasquez was unable to explain how her son’s injuries occurred. One record noted that, prior to the hospital visit, she and her boyfriend were watching television when the baby began screaming as if "someone was squeezing him."
Hilda Vasquez was sentenced to five years in prison for child abuse, but later received probation. Before her guilty plea, court records suggested that supervised visits with her son would be in his best interest. However, it appears she eventually regained custody of the child.

Court records also show an arrest for a probation violation in 2017.
Christiane Rosales Fajardo, the Vasquez family spokesperson, issued the following statement regarding the conviction:

"All I can say is that as a community advocate for this community I know for a fact in Hilda’s past she was a victim of domestic violence. I know that in her past she has done everything to protect her children and that her child was living with her at the time he walked out of the house. All four of her children was living with her so if the state and DCFS believe she is a danger then that means they failed him again."

Hilda's mug shot

So Christiane Rosales Fajardo does not think this burden on society is in any way responsible for the abuse her child suffered.

Because the article says boyfriend not father. Can't Keep Hilda's pussy empty obviously.

WDSU Investigates has uncovered more documents in an alleged child abuse case involving a nonverbal boy who was found dead in a New Orleans lagoon.

Bryan Vasquez, 12, died from injuries from an alligator attack nearly two weeks after his family reported him missing.
His family said he was nonverbal and had autism, but new documents show he suffered a brain injury from his mother when he was just three months old.

Those injuries have left some questioning could they be linked to Vasquez's special needs.

The records obtained by WDSU Investigates are from the Department of Child and Family Services.
DCFS declined to release additional documents requested by WDSU.
Bryan Vasquez’s death is a tragedy – for his loved ones, for his community, and for all of us. We recognize the deep impact his loss has had on the community that spent weeks searching for him. The outpouring of care for Bryan from neighbors, volunteers, and first responders speaks to the strength of Louisiana’s communities. DCFS stands with our partners to keep children safe.
We also understand the intense public interest in this case. While confidentiality statutes prevent us from discussing case specifics, the public can be certain that DCFS takes every allegation of abuse with the utmost seriousness. We are committed to being responsive, cooperative, and accountable because protecting Louisiana’s children remains our highest priority.
The record obtained by WDSU Investigates is dated November 2013, when Vasquez was an infant.

The report details he was nearly killed, with injuries to his skull, leg fracture, trauma to his eye, and injury to his brain.

The report states: "skull (right parietal) fracture, bilateral tibia/fibula fractures, retinal hemorrhage, and evidence of injury to the brain. Medical professionals determined this was non-accidental trauma and diagnosed child physical abuse."
Records show Vasquez stopped breathing, and 911 was called. EMS transported him to Tulane Hospital emergency room, where he was examined and placed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

His mother, Hilda Vasquez, was charged and plead guilty to cruelty to a juvenile. She was given probation.
WDSU Investigates also uncovered Show Casa New Orleans in her criminal court file.

Casa advocates are citizen volunteers who speak for the best interests of abused and neglected children.

WDSU Investigates called Show Casa New Orleans' office, but it appears to have closed.
A CASA representative noted all other parishes in Louisiana have a CASA program. WDSU asked the state office for comment and is waiting for a response.
Investigators are looking into how Bryan got out of his home back in August, and NOPD has put a top child abuse detective on the case. NOPD is also searching Hilda's phone.

"There may or may not be information data that is critical to this investigation in that phone, another phone, or on a computer it could be knowledge someone has We have to let the agencies do what they are trained to do we need to find out why this happened," said Melanie Talia, President and CEO at New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation.

A 34-year-old mother in Louisiana has been arrested after her 12-year-old son went missing and was later found dead from "blunt force trauma due to an alligator," which caused him to "subsequently drown." Hilda Vasquez was taken into custody over the weekend and charged with one count of second-degree cruelty to a child and one count of negligent homicide in the death of Bryan Vasquez, authorities announced.
Bryan was initially reported missing by his mother on Aug. 14, sparking nearly two weeks of searching by local, state, and federal authorities that ultimately ended in tragedy when his body was discovered by divers on Aug. 26.

The boy had fled his home after allegations that his mother had previously abused and neglected him.
"This is all been a pattern of behavior by the mother; this is not the first time that Bryan has been the victim of some sort of trauma and/or anything that we deem to be negligent," Chief Deputy Superintendent Hans Ganthier of the New Orleans Police Department said during a news conference on Sunday. "So this is all a pattern and this is all established in the warrant."
Deputy Superintendent Nicholas Gernon reiterated that point, telling reporters that investigators had found "a pattern of both negligence and abuse over Bryan's 12 years," saying authorities believe they can "prove that pattern of negligence and abuse led to a severe injury, undue pain, and suffering on his part."
Gernon said such abuse began when Bryan was still a newborn.

"When he was 3 months old, she committed a skull fracture, broken legs, and a collapsed lung," said Gernon. "At that point, he was removed from the home, and at some point subsequent to that, DCFS returned him back to the home."

The mother of a 12-year-old boy who was killed by an alligator in August also had a newborn that tested positive for cocaine in July, officials said.
In court Monday, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office revealed that Vasquez and her newborn both tested positive for cocaine in July.

Prosecutors argued that Vasquez is a danger to the community.

Vasquez was ordered to be held without bond, exactly one week after she was ordered to stay away from her three living children.
Vasquez was previously convicted of cruelty to juveniles in 2014 when prosecutors say she caused a traumatic brain injury to Bryan when he was just 3 months old.

Vasquez had two past Department of Children and Family Services cases open against her in connection with alleged child abuse and lack of supervision. Two additional DCFS cases remain open: one for Bryan’s death and the other for her newborn having cocaine in its system.

He pissed her off some kind of way when he was a baby and she shook him and then probably slammed him against a wall. But they just gave him back, what's the point of having an agency that's supposed to protect children if they just keep sending them back to the person who nearly killed them?

You really have to ask the question if what she did to him caused him to be autistic or brain damaged, my answer is YES!!!!
