A Michigan man allegedly used a shotgun to kill his daughter’s boyfriend this week, WDIV Detroit reports.

A 66-year-old Harrison Township man is accused of shooting and killing Jomarr Pye, 43, of Harrison Township, early Wednesday, June 16, police said. The father apparently believed that Pye had assaulted his daughter, who was also Pye’s girlfriend, which led to the shooting at Prentiss Apartments.

Police arrived to find the suspect performing chest compressions on Pye who had a gunshot wound to the chest according to the report. Pye was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the suspect or information related to an arrest or charges in the case.

The smart thing to do would not have been to offer chest compressions. Instead the father should have held his girl tight or behind him while he kept the gun leveled at the victim on the ground. That way when the police arrived he could more convincingly say he was trying to protect his daughter and he was in shock.

Instead now the prosecution will be able to say that he knew what he did was wrong and he was in his right mind when he did it. In other words he screwed up.
