PORTAGE COUNTY, Ohio -- A Portage County man is charged with killing his infant daughter.

Investigators said Kenny Shears beat his 5-month-old daughter in a fit of rage because she was crying.

Angelina Shears died Wednesday night inside her home.

"My son-in-law called me and said the baby's not breathing," Angelina's grandfather said on a 911 call.

Investigators said he was racing home while on the phone with 911 and immediately started CPR when he got to the house, but it was too late.

"Actually, I was disgusted. Honestly. It broke my heart," a neighbor said.

Neighbors are still in disbelief, not only because such a young life was lost, but because of how investigators said she died.

Portage County Sheriff Duane Kaley said Kenny Shears murdered Angelina while her mom and grandfather were out of the house.

Kenny Shears was alone with his daughter when she started crying.

"He was asleep. The child was crying and woke him up," Kaley said.

He said what Kenny Shears admitted to next is hard for even a seasoned lawman to hear.

"He got frustrated and used physical force," Kaley said.

The coroner said she had multiple blunt force injuries -- at 5 months old, she was beaten to death.

Kenny Shears is charged with murder. He is being held on a $1 million bond at the Portage County Jail.

The case will go to a grand jury, but because of Angelina's age this is a death penalty eligible case if the prosecutor decides to pursue it.

An autopsy was done on Angelina Shears over the weekend. The coronor reports that she had multiple blunt force injuries, which resulted in her death. Kenny Shears was arraigned Friday and his bond was set at $1 million. He will be back in court for on December 19.

For those of you who speculate my reasoning behind what I'm saying all this is true. It is not heresay and if it come's down too it where I need too testify on behalf of Angelina, I will do so. Yes my name will be exposed and I take the risk of harm being done too my family and friends that are close too me. You all must understand that there is know doubt in my mind that Kenneth did in fact murder his child and I agree that he should be locked up and thrown in prison. Did anyone look into his charge's in michigan? I think not. What were the charge's? Oh wait statutory rape? I believe there needs too be a full blown investigation into both the mother and the father, and mental evaluation's should be issued. Now you all claim we just need too let the little girl rest in peace? I thought part of R.I.P is clarification and justification.

I have personally met with the mother of the child. Stood right in the kitchen of an unnamed residence and these were the words out of both her and her father's mouth "We didn't want that child anyways."
and her father replied "That's OK! you have an alibi." Now is that right? Is that justified? I understand that the mother is going through alot, and sometime's people say things out of shock for no apparent reason's. I just want the proper people brought too justice for this tragic event. You people also fail too understand and have too take into consideration the age of the mother. No one considered the fact that the mother's father condoned this, but I hate too say it because Kenneth was one of my closest friends and loved him like he was a brother. He should have been brought up on sagitory rape charge's a long time ago. He was 27 and she was only 16. What kind of father would condone that kind of behavior? Oh wait there's another preventable situation correct? I understand that people fall in love all the time but an adult with a child, that's absolutely sickening.

Listen if you would have known both the mother and the father of the child. You would understand where I am coming from on this matter. I have spoken with both the mother and her father, and the fact that the mother showed no remorse what so ever for the loss of her child is down right blasphemous. Also the fact that child service was called too the address for a routine check-up and seen the quality of the living conditions of the house. Something could have been done then, don't sit there and badger someone for knowing what they are talking about. Children services could have done something then and the situation would have been prevented. I'm not saying she did or didn't have anything too do with it, but you must take into consideration that couldn't it be a possibility?

Kenny was always very good with children. I don't see him doing this. Just because he has a record doesn't make him a baby shaker. And he wasn't "babysitting" this was his daugther too! And how do we know the mother of the child didn't have anything to do with this. And they haven't released any details to what has happened. But I am sure BECAUSE he has a record it was easy to arrest him for this regardless of whether or not there is proof that it was him.

Wendy: Are the courts wrong? this moron has multiple run ins with the law according to the Portage County Court's database; including traffic violations, drugs, and a nice little fugitive warrant. With that said, saying a statement like "it's not like this young man" rings hollow, and we could almost predict something like this would happen.
I tell you what, I would never leave someone with that type of record to babysit my kids, and if I ever did allow that...someone please put me up for a mental evaluation!

Absolutely horrible. A 5 month old dies at the hands of one bad dude (uh, presumably). Interesting to note that the Portage County Courts have an individual by the name of Kenneth B. Shears in their database, traffic violations, drug paraphernalia, fugitive complaint, now murder. All run ins with the law begin with an 'innocent' plea, but all ended in 'guilty' by the court.
Wanna bet there is another 'innocent' plea?

When I hear the word baby, I immediately think about the word crying. They kinda go together, I mean that's what babies do. That is the only way they can communicate. If you can't take the crying, don't get involved with babies. Simple as that. These days there are condoms, pills, plain old leg crossing, abortion, adoption, safe haven... just to start with. So no need to have babies if you can't deal with the crying issue.

I'm sure there's a lot more in this case than what we've read so far. And the comments about the mother and grandfather - well, I'm afraid the unfolding story won't tell about the happy times.

Pretty much everything anonymous1985 said could be backed up by court records. He was a registered sex offender. Not sure what the felony was for but it was drug related and they wanted $30,000 bail for it. He had a domestic violence charge in 2003 and a bunch of other traffic stuff.

I dont for one minute believe Kenneth is innocent of anything here. Kelly may have not been the best mother but Kenneth is to blame for Angelina's death. The only court records for the mom (Kelly Churchill) was a big court battle between her mom and dad over paternity and custody of her as a child and she was shuttled back and forth between them. The marriage didnt last more than 6 months to a year.

Angelina's grandfather would be Scott A, Churchill. A local school bus driver.

The Hair DOO is the new thing, criminals are wearing, dont ask me why, I think it looks like a dead cat as well. Or makes them look like a cabbage patch kid gone bad.

Mother is a complete idiot. Based on the hearsay comment on both parents not wanting the baby, I bet she didn't give a fat-rats-ass if he harmed the baby. Looks like the baby was subject to previous abuse and of course CPS did nothing.

The only ray of sunshine in this whole nightmare, is this bastard will get his due big time in prison...maybe he can "rest" forever....

Not the stuff about his prior criminal record, which is crystal clear - the stuff where anonymous tries to share the guilt with the mom and grandfather by writing that they aren't upset over the baby's death and somehow share blame. While Anonymous is true in reporting the killer's history, this is where they lose credibility for me, as a friend of the killer.
 
If you do not WANT the baby, give it to someone who does! Someone actually offered to pay all of my daughters medical bills and personal bills (while she was pregnant) PLUS pay $10,000 towards her college if they could adopt her baby. At that point she didn't feel that she could handle a baby. These people were so very desparate for a child that they would have done ALL of the above just for the chance to have a baby. My daughter opted to keep her baby. And she is a good mother.
This couple would do the same for another woman if she did not want her baby. And there are thousands of other couples and even single people out there who would take care of all the baby expenses plus give the mother a boost (like money for college or a car for work or whatever) just for the chance to adopt.
WHY keep a baby that you do NOT W-A-N-T??? WHY??? Give the baby a chance in life. Give the baby to someone who DOES want a baby and who will love the baby and take care of the baby.

If you are that stupid to beat a child to death because she is crying then you do not deserve the same right to breathe the air that we civilized people breathe. That poor baby was either wet or hungry but the big p * ss y bish was awakened from his nap and cranky.

He was a very caring person to his family, like mom and cousins, aunts, he had always watched his cousin durning the day. He would play video games and make food. He would let them eat candy and play around. he watched them all the time and never did anything like this happen. His past charge that made him a SO isnt what you may think it is. Its not like he went to hurt someone or rape someone. He was young and wasnt really thinking. Yes did he do something terrible this time he did. Does he desevre to be talked about like this i dont think so. All you can see is the bad not all the good he did do. He help poeple out, he loved his girlfirend, was always there for his family. Even now he still is. He is religious now and doesnt even fight in prison. He has always had a heart but he had problems too. Im not gonna make excuses but before you go just dogging on him atleast find the good things about him too. We have all done bad things. And just think how would you feel if some one you loved hade made this mistake and all you seen was people calling him names and wanting him dead. Im just saying he has a heart and he does have good qualities. I know first hand that he does.
