Bond was granted Wednesday afternoon for the Aiken County daycare employee fired after allegedly slapping, dragging, and pushing several children.
Markita Nicole Rainey, 31, was charged with five counts of unlawful conduct toward a child on Tuesday.
In a statement released to News 12, The Sunshine House on Summerwood Way where Rainey worked says they took immediate action on her and followed appropriate company and state licensing procedures before firing her.
The company said they received "substantial evidence of children being mishandled" by Rainey. Aiken DPS says Rainey slapped a 1-year-old with an open hand, tossed children onto mats, and pushed another child to the floor.
As a result, Rainey and the assistant teacher in the classroom were both fired from the daycare. The assistant teacher was fired because she failed to report the issue, according to the company, and does not face any charges from law enforcement.
The daycare also contacted the parents of each child in the classroom to "personally notify them" of the incident.
The company also gave new details on Rainey, saying she had worked for them for less than two months beginning in January 2019.
"She was employed at this school for one month prior to taking personal leave," the statement said. "She returned as a teacher at our school approximately three weeks ago."
The company also says appropriate background checks were done on Rainey before she was hired.
