Dad charged in baby girl's death
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A father is facing charges after his baby girl died from abdominal injuries.
Police say five-month-old Indya Ebong was driven to West Houston Medical Center by her parents on Friday afternoon, suffering from abdominal injuries. She died a short time later.

An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined the baby had severe blunt force trauma to the abdomen and ruled her death a homicide.
Police say on Saturday Indya's father, Iniubong Effiong Ebong, admitted to investigators that he had used his hand to strike the baby on her abdomen when she would not stop crying.

The trial of a father accused of hitting his baby daugher so hard he lacerated her liver got underway in Houston Tuesday.

Iniubong Ebong is charged with capital murder in the death of 5-month-old Indya Ebong.

Investigators say Iniubong Ebong, who was 31 at the time, was babysitting the infant while her mother worked a double shift on Black Friday in 2010. He called the mother to say the girl needed to go to the hospital because something was wrong.

When the mother arrived, she found her daughter unresponsive and the father sound asleep. The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital. Authorities believe she had actually been dead a couple of hours before the mom arrived home.

An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the abdomen. Her liver had been lacerated.

Opening arguments were as graphic as they were heartbreaking Wednesday as prosecutors described the condition that 5-month-old Indya Ebong was found in at the hospital three years ago.

Prosecutors told the jury she had 24 broken ribs and bones. Her liver, lung, pancreas and esophagus were all damaged and she also had scratches on the back of her neck. Medical professionals confirmed seeing that on Black Friday in 2010, when the little girl died.

On that horrific day, the infant’s mother was scheduled to work a 12-hour shift at Walmart so she allowed the father, Iniubong Ebong, to babysit. They did not live together.

He called later to tell her that something was wrong. When the mother made it home, she found her daughter unresponsive and the father asleep. She frantically called for help, but her daughter was already dead.

Iniubong Ebong says he is not guilty. His attorney said the injuries were sustained when the girl’s mother came home, found her baby not breathing and attempted to perform CPR on a hard kitchen floor.

The defense accused the investigation of being so results-driven that it lost sight of what really happened.

How is it babysitting his own child ?? So he beats the hell out of his daughter and decides its time for nap ?

There is a special place in hell just for people like him !! Karma is a bitch and I bet he will be lights out in prison once people find out he is a baby killer !!

My oldest son has febrile seizures, and my family gets pretty freaked out about them. I've gotten used to them, so I keep him home with me and play Dr. Mommy when he has them. But I always tell my family that if they're keeping him and he has one, call 911 FIRST then call me, for seizures or an emergency. But I have a feeling if anything happened to our boys, my boyfriend would call me first no matter what.
And, I don't understand the mind set around "this baby won't stop crying, maybe hitting it really hard or throwing it against something will make it stop". Is it a lack of common sense, or the need some people have to fuck shit up when they're irritated?
