"Thursday morning Yuba County held a unique sentencing inside Wheatland High School’s gymnasium for a deadly DUI hit and run.

24-year-old Clara DeLong was sentenced to four years in state prison while sitting in front of a crowd of hundreds of high school students."

"Described as an ‘impact sentencing’ the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office explained the circumstances as unique and for the purpose of deterring drinking and driving in teens and young adults.

"40-year-old husband and father of three, Kenneth Glass, riding the motorcycle died at the scene crash that happened on Sept. 12, 2023 when DeLong’s truck collided with a motorcycle."

"Authorities say DeLong ran from the crash site and was later found and arrested; Delong was found to be, by authorities, over the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) limit, at .09 an hour after the crash.""

Back in my day there was a terrible video we had to watch. We could opt out and have our parents write a note, but my ADD ass forgot the slip. So me and 1 other girl watched a video of a car that hit a telephone pool and burst into flames. They removed the burnt bodies that were still in the sitting position, one still had a beer in his hand. Noone survived.

I think I have ptsd from it, but that shit worked!

Way back in the stone age, a projector with a reel to reel tape was rolled into the room and we watched something similar, I think a car hit a creosote telephone pole and it pretty much split it down the middle, another one where the car rolled several times down the road and ended up smashing thru the roof of a house, pretty memorable at the time, 1975.

Idk but, it seems that high school students fear, more than anything else, social rejection/ridicule. I would expect the sheer idea of being publicly shamed in that way, before hundreds of their peers, to be more convincing a deterrent to a teen than any amount of jail time.
