Homeless Family Of Autistic Boy Slapped Uplifted By Community

Support for the homeless family of a boy with autism who was slapped by a man for touching his car has continued spreading across the community.

The incident happened on July 1 as Alfredo Morales, 10, and his older sister, Claudia Morales, were crossing the street in Pacoima.

That’s when Alfredo reached out and touched the emblem on the man’s Mercedes-Benz sedan. The man made an immediate U-turn and followed the siblings to a bus stop. He allegedly stepped out, walked over to Alfredo who was sitting on a bench and slapped him.

His sister tried intervening and explained that Alfredo had autism, but the man still struck the boy.

Cell phone video of the confrontation went viral on social media, leaving community members outraged. A police report was also filed by the family.

Alfredo’s family is homeless and lives out of a broken truck at a Sun Valley park. The boy’s father, Miguel Morales, recently lost his job at a restaurant and is struggling to make ends meet.

Following a successful GoFundMe campaign and fundraising event, the Morales family said they were overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of strangers.

On July 12, their broken pickup truck was towed to a local dealership, Airport Marina Ford, for a complete makeover.

“It’s situations like this when you see it and if there’s something you can do, it’s imperative to step up and do what you can,” said Dan Theroux, General Manager of Airport Marina Ford.

Alfredo and his sister ride the bus daily to make a food and grocery run for the family. They were taking their usual bus route on July 1 when the confrontation happened. Many community members resonated with the story and wanted to support the Morales family in any way they could.

The Morales family is staying at a motel temporarily until local housing officials can help them transition into more permanent housing.

As for the driver who slapped Alfredo, many upset residents have shown up at the man’s home to demand answers.

You do not want to go to a shelter? They may be able to help you get housing since you have other medical conditions that may put you higher on the list to get housing.

Not in the local area , most of my family have passed or live out of state , I wouldn't leave West Virginia for any reason , unless I had the money to head to Europe again & then I wouldn't come back

If anyone is wondering why I or how I went to Europe last year ,, I had a 4 bedroom house on 15 acres of land here in Lost Creek WV , the house needed a lot of work , mostly on the roof , I had planned on getting a job at the first of 2023 (Covid is pretty much gone by then) , at the end of 2022 I started having serious problems with my legs , at a few points the pain got so bad , I had my 9mm up against my forehead & ready to pull the trigger , I'm glad I didn't ,, I did go to my doctor & he gave me a prescription called Gabipentin , (this Shit made me high) I took one when I got home & later on it worked , took care of the pain , I ended up having a follow-up with him & after some testing , I have a blood dissorder that could turn into Leukemia , he told me that he'd be surprised if I didn't have cancer , I said "Well F**k" , if i end up having cancer , I'm selling the house & land & I'm heading to Europe "my grand father is from Slovakia" , I went twice "I was sick the first time before I left" , this was on my bucket-list of what I've wanted to do for a long time , my 2 trips over there & back didn't cost me very much , what killed my bank account was staying at a hotel in Bridgeport WV off & on for 5 months (close to $11,000) , my health started to get worse as time went on , but now I'm better & still have my bad days , there is more to this story , tell you later

I will say that I'm almost out of money , but it's still hard to ask for help , I do hope everyone don't think that I'm lying about what I'm saying , I don't believe in lying ,, even if there were people that would help me , I would feel bad because I wouldn't have any way of repaying

It made me high & the weird thing was that I kept seeing a dead woman outside of a hotel I stayed in , that was in Velka Lomnica Slovakia , I didn't see her here in the states ,,,, I would love to share the pics I took when I was in the UK & further in Europe , I was on a cruise for 13 days too

Here is where I used to live , it doesn't look like much at the time , it used to be all cleared of trees & brush , but there is about 15 acres there , if you turn to the right , you will see a bridge , we owned the land down over the hill on the same side as the house just on the other side of the creek , there is a creek that flowed through our property from a lake up the road

A California family expressed outrage that the man who slapped their 10-year-old boy with autism may not serve any jail time.

Scott Sakajian’s attorney filed a motion with the court requesting pretrial diversion as opposed to jail time. This did not sit well with Alfredo’s family.

“[Sakajian’s] lawyer said, ‘Oh well, I didn’t know the boy was autistic.’ What the hell does that have to do with anything?” their attorney Antonio Villegas told local NBC affiliate KNBC. “It’s not OK to slap 10-year-old non-autistic kids.”

Villegas also told the outlet the conviction could be stricken from Sakajian’s record if he successfully completed the probationary period.

“I want all the people in the world to see this is not right,” Miguel Alfredo Morales, the boy’s father, said. “You have to respect the children in any condition.”

A GoFundMe has netted the family about $100,000.

“Alfredo was the victim of a grown man slapping him at the bus stop,” the fundraiser says. “He has severe autism and his family is in desperate need of help.”
