Parkersburg police said they were notified May 12 by the West Virginia Department of Human Services’ Child Protective Services about a critical incident involving an unresponsive infant who had been brought to Camden Clark Medical Center.

The child’s father, Cordel Douglas Farr, 23, of Parkersburg, took the baby to the hospital, where staff found the child was not breathing, according to police. Medical personnel were able to resuscitate the infant and determined the child possibly had a brain bleed. The child was later flown by medical helicopter to Morgantown for further treatment.
Detectives and Child Protective Services workers traveled to Morgantown, where they interviewed the child’s mother and father and consulted with medical staff to determine what caused the infant’s condition. After several days of additional testing, police said doctors concluded the child’s injuries were not the result of natural causes or a pre-existing condition.

Investigators later requested a second interview with Farr, who agreed, police said. During that interview, Farr admitted causing injuries to the child and shaking the infant while the baby was in his sole care.
