According to the Houma Police Department, officers were alerted of a 6-week-old suffering from life-threatening trauma to the head and ribs at a hospital on Sat., May 25. The infant was flown to a specialized medical center and is listed in critical condition as of Thursday.
Officials allege that the parents, a 16-year-old juvenile male, and 18-year-old Jemi Kenny, were responsible and that the injuries were inflicted within 10 days of the baby being brought to the hospital.
Both suspects were taken into custody and face attempted second-degree murder charges.
“The long-term prognosis of the child is not known but his condition is being monitored,” Police Chief Travis Theriot said in a press release.
