Police say a four-year-old girl was stabbed multiple times.

Neighbors who witnessed the horror say the young child's mother frantically carried her out in her arms, covered in blood.

Witnesses say the mother was hysterical as her daughter was rushed into an ambulance as first responders rushed to the scene around 4 p.m. Friday.
Local leaders say the unthinkable violence was a result of a family dispute inside the home. The apparent suspect is a family member who has emotional issues.

"It was the aunt that committed this crime, and she's on the loose. They're trying to locate her at this time. At this time, she was not there in the moment officers were dispatched," said Councilmember Luis Velez.

The aunt would often be seen waking up and down the block, pacing back and forth talking to herself, neighbors say.

The father of a 4-year-old girl who was stabbed, allegedly by her aunt, inside a home in Paterson on Friday spoke out Saturday.

Speaking from outside St. Joseph's Hospital where his daughter, Amber, was being treated, Faherem LaSane said she was recovering.

"She couldn't respond because she had tubes and everything down her, but she opened her eyes and when she heard my voice she started making eye contact trying to see me. That brung joy to me that she was responsive," LaSane said.
The child underwent surgery after she suffered a punctured lung, punctured liver and her diaphragm was also affected in the stabbing.

I'd say Auntie has much more than "emotional issues", I think everyone has some sort of "emotional issues" ranging in severity-this Aunt has more like a deep psychosis (even neighbors saw how she was), schizophrenia perhaps? I'll leave those up to the experts, but that is what Auntie obviously needs, some serious inpatient mental help with a nice dose of psychotropic drugs. And I would keep my little ones away from her indefinately-too much of a risk. I wish Amber a speedy recovery physically and mentally, hopefully it will be a lost memory one day-but something that traumatic? Doubtful-some memory will probably always remain-and her physical scars will help to remind her-poor baby

A woman was charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of a 4-year-old child last month, authorities announced Tuesday.

Mabel Campechano, 27, was charged with attempted murder, endangering the welfare of a child, endangering an injured victim, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said.
The child suffered a punctured lung, liver, and more, and was in serious condition at the hospital, ABC-TV reported.

No motive for the attack was given by police.
