Three people were arrested after 13 children were allegedly found living in "deplorable conditions" inside an east Toledo home.
According to a police affidavit, officers observed an infestation of insects, human feces on the floor, no food stored in the kitchen, and no functioning toilet or shower. Police said they also found multiple animals "that were not cared for" and were urinating and defecating on the floor.
According to police, the 13 children, ages 0-13, "had multiple bites on their legs from what appeared to be from the insects and also appeared very filthy, as if they had not been bathed in days."
Angel Lambert, 32, was arrested and charged with eight counts of endangering children, Cassandra Lambert, 27, was arrested and charged with five counts of endangering children and Angel Oliveri, 28, was arrested and charged with five counts of endangering children. According to police affidavits, all three had children inside the home.
The Lucas County Children Services responded to a call from Toledo Police, and our workers went out and assessed the need of each child. As a result, we decided to place each of the children with family. We are going to continue to assess the long-term needs of these children and the best way we can keep them safe in the long run."
The Toledo Humane Society told WTOL 11 that it picked up one dog and one rabbit from the home on Monday.
In 2020 Angel Lambert was charged with endangering children, when police said she left her children to care for themselves. According to police, Lambert's home had urine and feces in every room. She pleaded no contest and was given one year of probation.
